K20-EG shifter question(s)...
For those of you with K20 EG hybrids, would any of you be willing to share info on how you managed to retain the stock EG center console w/cup holder when using a DC5/RSX shifter box/cable assembly?
Also, does anyone have images of an EP shifter assembly?
thanks.

Re: K20-EG shifter question(s)... (Katman)
i heard the accord shifter is smaller and will fit. i just got a rsx dash for my eg and will begin working on that tomorrow. im gonna try to get center console from rsx or accord shifter and see it that works out.

Think you can snap some pics of the accord shifter once you get your hands on one?
thanks

one trick you can use to make the shifter sit lower is instead of mounting on the floor inside the cabin, you can mount it from underneath with a couple of small spacers. You still however need to cut holes for the cables so they dont kink on you. This will give you the same shift, just a few inches lower giving you that precious space needed to clear the center console.

You can use the prelude/accord shifter but the cables dont exactly mount to the base. One of them is about 2.5" off IIRC. We just use the RSX box and trim down some of the plastic support on each side to make it work. A 4" angle grinder works good.
Then, about 3" of the actual shifter itself is removed and we re weld the threaded top portion back on so the stock **** can be installed.
Personally, I kind of like the feel of the tall shifter but the customers think it looks silly. To each their own.

Yeah from what I've gathered you can use the 94-97 Accord steel shifter box and it will mount under the EG civics' plastic. The EP shifter assembly doesn't look like it would work unless you are tring to use the EP dash it mounts at a 45* angle. Looks crazy.

cool..
thanks for the suggestions.
I hear the Accord shifter assembly doesn't feel as nice as the the RSX shifter assy.....scratch that.... I just remembered I test drove a 95 coupe a few years ago with H22 and I HATED how the shifter assembly felt...all clunky n' ****..
I think I'll stick to the DC5 shifter assembly for this friends swap. It didn't feel bad at all during the test drive I had in Shawn Hillier's EK.
Another thing.
I have access to a Euro-R/TSX shifter box assembly. I was comparing it up to the DC5 shifter assy I have access to, and it seems a bit smaller overall than the DC5 box.
With some mediocre modifications to it (dremel off some plastic), and making it sit within the EG shifter boot hole, it looks like it might actually work & sit better than the DC5 shift box and allow complete fitment to the EG center plastics..
Here's a comparison pic of the DC5 box vs. Euro-R/TSX shifter box(s)
btw, I have on idea why the EuroR shifter box on the far left has a funky welded shifter:

Re: K20-EG shifter question(s)... (Katman)
On my swap I had Redzone Performance make me a box that the shifter sat in and lowered the shifter about 2 inches. It sat perfect just like stock. I had to cut a rectangle to make the box fit flush. But then again, the K series swap in a EG/DC chassis is not 100% bolt on anyways. If you need a picture IM me.

oh it works, but you can't fit the stock EG center console back over the DC5 shifter box. I already dremeled the crap out of the center console & shifter box, but the box is just a bit too tall & bulky for the console to fit cleanly over..
On the other hand, the Euro-R/TSX box looks like it might be more forgiving after some dremeling work, and some reworking to the EG chassis shifter hole.

Re: (Katman)
I have what you are looking for........here are some pics of it, We make this box and sell it for $50.00 shipped and it easy to put in if you have a way to cut the center section of the floor in where the shifter goes. one pics shows the center console over it but it is not bolted one......the last pic shows a DC with the center console bolted on!
let me know if you need on......Ill hook you up katman, just PM me!

Re: (RedZone)
i cut the floor and used the prelude shifter. works good enough for me. the only thing is the shifter sits a little bit further back. nothing a cut and reweld of the shaft cant fix. just my 2 cents. also the euro r shifter assembly looks like the prelude one but newer.

Re: (K@man)
Why don't you put it up under the radio like I did with mine, similar to the new Si? I love the way my hand can move almost side to side from the wheel to the shift lever, seems more natural now than reaching down to the lever...Hasport built a tower for it and used the Si shifter. I still need to make a cover for it but I'll get to that shortly...I can take a pic and send to you if you want one...
