Yes, that's right, I got a deal on a k-motor that I couldn't pass up so here it goes. I have an 88 Honda Civic Wagon rt4wd that I'm going to do a k24 w/ crv/element 4wd trans. It's obviously never been done before and I'm sure it won't be easy or cheap but that's what makes it fun right? (we'll see...) And yes, it will be boosted...

Here's the car:


The motor:
K24a4 bottom end
-forged rods (undecided brand)
-CP Pistons
-ACL bearings, etc...
K20a2 head
-Brian Crower valvetrain and turbo cams
-Custom IM and TB

Trans:
CRV or Element 4wd
-CC clutch
-6th gear mod

I've got full suspension lined out with Koni/GC coilovers, neuspeed strut bars, bushing kit, the whole 9 yards... I'm going to custom mount rear disc brakes as well. The car will be purpose built for road racing and with boost I plan to make around 400whp give or take. I'll keep this post updated as progress provides, I'll be using innovative mounts (I'm sure I'll have to custom make the trans side) and local shop will assist with driveshaft and axles etc...


First thing I need help with is if anyone knows what the rear diff ratio is on the crv/element? Or where I could find it without having to pay $$$ for the FSM

i want to see some 1/4 mile times when its done

it should see high to mid 10's with 400whp and 4wd

I'll bet that the AWD drivetrain won't handle anywhere near to 400HP. The 1st gen CRV AWD has been tested (and destroyed) with far less than 400HP.

Yes and I will retain the center viscous coupling from the stock driveshaft which is key in making the drivetrain last.

Not to mention it has a lot to do with how you drive. This will be a road racing/ time attack car, I may take it to the 1/4 just to see what it does but it won't be seeing any crazy launches very often.

The manual transmission CR-V didn't come to the United States, just as a head's up. But, you could still use the transmission from the Element.

I'll be picking up the stock short block this weekend, then I'll be on the hunt for a good k20 head. Building the motor will be first on the to do list (obviously)

Manuals were offered in CRV in the US. I've rode in one. Not sure about 4wd CRV though.

Regardless, that's not the point, there's tons of them out there, car-part.com will assist me in the transmission location

As for the turbo setup, this is what I've come up with
GT2871r or 3071r turbo
Custom shorty topmount manifold
Then the typical fmic, tial bov and wg, blah blah blah...

I figure it should spool retarded fast, giving me good response/ torque: perfect match with the awd coming around turns and flying down the straights

Sorry about that, I should have clarified. I meant 4wd Manual transmission CR-V's weren't offered in the USA.

crv/element rear diff ratio for any that i've seen is 2.533.

you might be stuck using that because I've heard that the b/k turn the opposite direction than the d's

not sure if thats true or not since i havent verified personally but just a heads up

put a BW s258 or s259
the 258 will spool as fast as the 2871 with a ton more head room

Some of you should re evaluate what you know about element / cr-v 4 wheel driven drive trains THEY ARE PART TIME 4wd not AWD.

It's not like Mitsubishi nor Subarus no center differential there for it isn't fulltime or aka awd.

He's right. You would be better off finding a wrecked Acura RL with the SH-AWD system. That is the type of AWD you want.
