Re: JDM type R into my 89 si hatch (groovinmind)
there are a few issues you will have to deal with:
Tranny-to use the Type R tranny (a hydraulic tranny) you would have to replace your clutch pedal and assembly with a hydraulic setup (from any civic or teg 94 and up). this will require some ingenuity and custom work but i've seen it done. Otherwise, any cable b-series tranny will work (look for S1, J1, or even a YS1).
Wiring-the type R motor is OBD 2 and your car is OBD 0. One way to deal with this is to use all of the wiring from the ITR, including fuse boxes and such. Then your car would be running on the old wiring but your motor would run on the new wiring. Or you could convert the engine to OBD 0 by changing the distributor, injectors, etc (pain in the ***). talk to blownhatch in the EF forum if you go for the second choice.
Mounts-if you use a cable tranny, any of the mount kits will work. if you use the Type R tranny, use the HCP kit. The rear and drivers side mounts will bolt up perfect. The tranny side mount will need a little modification.
Good luck.

Re: JDM type R into my 89 si hatch (red civic standard)
your best bet IMHO would be to get a 92 + civic, it would be alot easier on you. But good luck either way.
