Default JDM ITR motor..octane use?

In california, we have 91 Octane. Is that okay with the super high compression JDM ITR motor? Or is it cool if you just bring down ignition timing a degree? 2 degrees?

Japan has 2 grades of gas from the pump over here 91 and 96 octane...The JDM ITR motor can run off of the California 91 no problem even with normal ignition timing
