JDM GSR Swap in to 97LS: ECU? best course of action?
Hey guys,
Just like the question says. We have a 97 LS which is OBD2 and has all the
emission control devices for OBD2. The motor which we want to swap in
is a JDM GSR which is a 94-95 and has a speed limited OBD1 computer.
What would be the best course of action in getting this motor activated?
Should we stay in the OBD2 world?
Is the 97 and chassis side
(not engine side) harness plugs any different from 97-98 and 99-01?
That would lead me to my next question... would any GSR OBD2 computer
plug into the LS cassis side harness?
Or should we go to OBD1 by converting the chassis side harness plugs with
a OBD2>OBD1 adapter and use the 94-95 GSR ecu?
If we did that, we would have to have the roms swapped out to remove the
JDM installed speed limiter.
My main concern is what will be best for the car long term. I know we can
just about get anything working, the tech doing the install is smart as a whip
and a honda-acura guy professionally and does good work. What would be the
best course of action? We do not have a adapter to go from OBD2>OBD1.
We do have the JDM computer and a whole 97LS ECU and harness and other
LS engine side harnesses if necessary...
any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated...

ok if ur motor is 94-95 then it's ob1. which means ur missing couple sensors on the block and the wrong dist. and no u can;t put the sensor in cuase it;s molded to then block but u can change dist. but u will get a check engine light. so the best way to go is get a obd 2 motor. but if ur going to use the obd1 engine. use a ob1 ecu. u can use the 94-95 engine harness which plug into ur 97 ob2 harness except ur car will have a extra plug sitting around. that was for the missing sensor. now if ur going to use an obd2 engine harness either cut or change out ur dist. and get an ob2 to ob1 ecu plug. that should help ur problem also there will be some pin diffrence a couple but not alot might wanna get a helm book. for ur yr of car.
