Actually, the USDM B16A (B16A3 and B16A2) are better than the 1G JDM B16A. The cams are better. But it would appear that the JDM B16A (SIRI and SIRII) have more aggressive ECUs. So if anything, you would GAIN power with a USDM B16A.

yeah true the usdm b16a2/3 does have a better flowing head then the jdm b16a(sir).The jdm b16a is rated at 158hp with 10.2:1 compression. The usdm b16a's have a rated 160hp with 10.2:1 compression, While the jdm b16a (sir2) has a rated 168hp with 10.4:1 compression.....the jdm sir2, and both usdm b16a's have the same heads.the jdm engines usually get the extra power from the ecu and compression. The hassle to convert the obd2 to non-obd would not be worth the 2hp....you would be better off rebuilding the engine you have now

While we're beating me up you might as well mention the fact that the sir has a cable tranny, and the sir2 and usdm b16a's have a hydrolic tranny. They also have a better flowing head, oh and don't forget the auto b16a has the weakest cams of them all......

In general power wise they are about the same (158 hp vs 160hp), being that he was asking about the performance

Give me a break,Get the 99 are you crazy.Whatever tiny differences there are between the two would be made up in that the si motor is 8-11 years younger.Probably a lot less abuse and surely way lower miles, but anyway they were rated a the same bhp so it don't really matter anyway.Beside the obd you could use all the same I/H/E so you already got all the upgrades.

He doesn't have to use the tranny, ecu, obd2 elec., ect. off the a2. Just use the longblock with your current cable tranny, distributor, injectors, header, intake, ect. and have yourself a almost new B16 with better cams. If the price is right, go for it.

I was just being a smart ***, I know he wouldn't need to use that stuff.IMO i would rebuild before going through the hassle of swapping blocks....it would cost about the same and you would have a stronger engine....

heh, my turn...

All of the US B16A motors use JDM 89-91 B16A PR3 10.2cr pistons, other than that all of the US B16A motors are all the same internally, minus the usual OBD1/OBD2 components.

Like some of these guys are saying, if you get your friends motor, you'll basically have the same motor you have now, but with a hell of a lot less miles on it. I say just keep your motor as-is.

They're virtually the same motor minus the OBD complexities.

Personally if some one offered me a motor that was ten years younger I'd take it.It's pretty much a no lose situation bro, just decide if that's what you feel like doing for a day or two.

thats not true!
jdm b16a sir1 has a compression ratio of 10.2:1
jdm b16a sir2 has a compression ratio of 10.4:1
and the usdm b16a2/3 has a compression ratio of 10.2:1..
so yes the usdm b16a and the jdm b16a (sir1 which he has) hav the same compression and are both rated at the same hp.....
jdm b16a sir1 has 158hp (rated) and the jdm b16a sir has 168hp and the usdm b16a2/3 has 160hp (rated)...
only the sir2 has a higher compression ratio....and your rite it's .2 higher
