Default Interchangeable parts....

When I read about peeps doing swaps, they ask what tranny would work best with a certain motor, and other peeps responding with "this will work best with that engine". Well, I was just wondering how do you guys know what works best with what? And what parts are interchangeable? Do yall just learn this stuff from trial and error? I would really like to know more. Is there a book or article that explains the types of trannies and what engines they would work best with?
Thanks

tech=the learning never stops....just check this site regularly and you'll know what tranny to use with what motor setup is the best. It's all in what you expect from the car too...i.e. drag race or autoX....etc...and when you get a chance....test drive some stock cars for the feel of their stock tranny...most of the guys on this board have driven enough cars (work on cars then test drive them) to know what's best for what setups

Much of it is trial and error but there are also people here and on other boards who work for honda and can get 'inside' information. I also often rely on contacts I have a junk yards to confirm replacement parts.

Over the past 5 years or so, as this craze has taken off, people have built something of a database of what works and what doesn't. Not all of the information is %100 accurate but much of the fun of this is the learning itself. It's also really great to be driving something that you built yourself.
