Idle Surge Problem on h22a w/jdm p13 ecu
I have a ek with a h22a swap I use a ob1 p72 ecu, but when I switch back to a jdm
p13 the idling is weird. It idles up and own from 500 to 1000. So I switched it back to the p72 and it was normal again. Any ideas?
Any advice you guys can help me out on would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Zy

Re: Idle Surge Problem on h22a w/jdm p13 ecu (HyperH22)
just a guess, do you know if the p13 is a auto that has been converted to manual? I saw this because i had an auto converted and it had a weird loping idle like that, but when i swapped it out with a true manual ecu the problem was gone. Every time i put the converted p13 in my car it would have the loping idle.

if you can pull the numbers of the side that will help. its something like this ####-P13-###. if the last number in the last three is anything then 0 then there's a good chance its an auto, but to tell for sure we would need the full numbers

Is your EGR hooked up??? If it is, try plugging both the valve and the other mechanism, then reset the ecu.. Fire it up.. See what happens...

H22A's are wierd with surging idles...
A few things to check and look out for:
- Vacuum leaks. Make sure there are zero vacuum leaks. This includes all vacuum nipples on the intake manifold (being the H22 intake manifold has a **** load of nipples to lead to different things), as well as gaskets like the throttle body gasket, and manifold gasket.
- Throttle body screw. There is a screw on top of the throttle body that regulates the idle RPM. Make sure that is all the way in, or just a little bit out. If the idle screw is too far out then you will have the surging problem.
- Burp the coolant/water system. If you have air bubbles in the water system, then you will also have surging problem. Just take off the radiator cap once the engine is cold, turn the car on and let the car warm up with the radiator cap on. Add coolant and squeeze the hoses to get rid of all the air bubbles and make sure the coolant level is good.
- Fast idle valve. This is under the throttle body. There is a plate on the back of it held by two phillips/8mm bolts. If you remove those, you will see this rubber nipple thingie on it, with a white spring loaded diaphram. Tighten the white diaphram by turning it clock wise until it's all the way tight.
Check those and see where it goes
HTH.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by HyperH22 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Here what it reads at the side of the ecu case 37820-P20-900</TD></TR></TABLE>
if thats the number then its not a p13, because it would say p13 where you have the p20, because thats the model number. also the other way to tell it says it on the ecu (the little sticker) says AT or MT.
