Default Idle is HIGH!!!

When I first got my LS/Vtec put together last week it was idleing at about 975 according to a Snapon timing light. Now, according to my tach its idle never goes below 1400, any ideas??? Could it be fuel pressure related?

High idle is usually always caused by a vacuum leak. I take it you *have* adjusted the idle, right?

That makes sence. I think the leak is on one of the plates I had to make to adapt the 1st gen IM to work with my setup. Im going to put a different manifold from a b16a2 on Wed., that should solve the problem. I hear a sucking sound from around the IM manifold, it sounds like its from below the TB where I put one of the plates.

I had the same problem, plus a CEL on my d16z6. It was the 02 sensor going bad. However it sounds like you might have a leak somewhere. Check all your hoses/fittings....Let us know what happens!

Fisrt off what TB are you using?
What TB gasket are you using. B/c you might be using the wrong one. Check those out.

Im using a LS TB on a b16a 1st gen IM. Im using the LS TB gasket. I had to modify both the IM and TB to make it work. Lets just say JB weld was involved. Anyways, there is a plate I made to cover up some openings below the TB, I think its leaking cause I hear a sucking sound from that area.

Like I said, my friend is going to let me put one of his IMs on, its from a 2000 SI so I won't have to modify it to make the TB work right. I will have to drill and tap a hole for that sensor on the far right runner though.

I actually hear a sucking sound from my IM during idle, definitely noticeable, but I don't really have any major idle problems 'cept when it's almost warm.

Try this: Use a fine mist, like one of those water sprayers for plants. Fire that sucker around the IM when it's idling... if the spray gets sucked in you can see where

What year is the TB you are using from? The reason I'm asking is when I had my LS/VTEC built on my 95, the dealership that did the work used a Type R TB gasket on my 95 GSR TB.

difference between OBD I GSR TB and OBDII ITR TB. (besides inlet size)

GSR TB has a Fast Idle Thermal Valve (located at bottom of TB where the coolant lines go). when engine is cold, air passes through valve. When engine warms up, the valve closes.

ITR TB doesn't have this valve. OBD II cars use a different method to control fast idle at cold temps.

Cause for problems...

ITR TB gasket does not cover all necessary parts of GSR TB. (FI thermal valve leaks air into TB causing high idle). if you have the old TB gasket, compare the new gasket to the old one and see if there is a difference.

I know you are using an LS TB but this may be the same problem I had.

Hope that helps.
