H22a turbo vs H2b turbo in an EF
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere....
Just reading about the h2b swap vs the h22a swap. It seems that the h2b is a popular option for EF civics seeing as the b series components dont weigh as much as those from the h series. However from what ive read they do seem to think that if you are going forced induction the h22a swap would be worth it....
What do you think?

don't think of it as H2B will be a lighter swap, think of it as better ground clearance, better axle angles, solid shift linkage over a conventional H22 swap... and boost is always good

Yeah, saving 9 pounds by using a B trans instead of an H makes all the difference in the world
But seriously, like 88ED8 already said, it's the ground clearance, axle angels, etc. Neither of us know that for fact though, it's just hearsay

Far as I know I remember it was only 1 lb of difference... between a GSR and a USDM H22 trans.

Thanks for all the replies yeah a mate said the b-series boxes were just so much better, pretty easy to get hold of over here as well.
Was having a look at the h2b FAQ and the only real problem i can see with the h2b swap is the fact that in an EF you need to modify the bonnet quite drastically. That said im thinking that if there is better ground clearance with the h2b then theres going to be more room for a bigger sump if i turbo it....
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the power output between the swaps would be very different? im guessing the h2b wouldnt put out as much power as the h22?
And the last noob question, can you use the entire h22 (not just the longblock) with a b-series box?

Power output wouldn't be any different. But with a B16 trans, or even a GSR the gearing would be much better, so it would be faster.

gsr tranny on an h22 may be worth a tenth or two on an NA setup, but as soon as you start making real power, there is no difference other than the missing $1500+ out of your bank account... H series trannies are just as strong as b series, and I have no trouble finding them.

Worth more than a tenth or two. Plus the axle angels are better, a lot of people like solid shifter rods compared to cables, the B series trans are more plentiful for sure, plus you have way more options as far as FD and gear ratio swaps. Plus, the QSD kit sells for under $1000

The qsd kit sells for just under a grand, but you also have to factor in the cash you lose buying a long block, and a separate transmission rather than a complete swap. For instance, my complete swap was $1250, whereas a long block alone is like $1000, and a gsr Tranny is $500 if you are lucky, more like $800. I have never seen or heard of the swap being worth more than 2 tenths apples to apples... The engine itself sits in the the bay like ****, ill give you the axle issue, not that they are better or stronger, but that with the straight H swap, you have to either buy them or build them, I have never broken one in 3 years of 366WHP, over 50 track passes on drags, and never ending street abuse. Same goes for the tranny.

NA the h22's first and 2nd gears go really quick. why would you go h2b and turbo it? you'd spend just as much time shifting as you would hitting the gas in the first 2 gears.
imo the shift feel is different, but the h22 tranny does fine.
