Default H22A fitting in a DC4

Hi,

We're having a hard time bolting a JDM H22A motor in a DC4 Integra using the HCP EG-22 kit. This is what the engine presently looks like sitting in the engine bay. It's already tilted back as far as it should be :

As it is, it's bolted passenger side and driver side. Here's what the mounts look like :

Driver side :

Passenger side :

So all is great and the fitting is really good, just as we come to the rear mount. Here's what it looks like :

If we push back the engine ourselves in the engine bay, we can get it to this point without stressing the mounts :

But still, fitting becomes quite odd on the side mounts. Here we can see it :

What we thought we'd do is slot the L bracket in order to align de hole properly and grind and remove the welded bolt end on it to put a free bolt using our slotted holes. Of course, we could also prop up the mount using 3-4 washers on the rear cross member and lengthen the bolts.

If we try to bolt the rear first as many how-tos on Honda technical sites suggests, side fitting becomes impossible. If we try it as per the instructions that are included with the kit say, passenger side mount, then rear, then driver side, the driver side mount can't even be bolted to the engine properly, much less in it's place. This is the best we got it to fit to date.

Some more information I gathered now, the engine is a JDM H22A motor, except it's serial number starts with 2021xxx instead of the Prelude's 10xxxxx or 40xxxxxx. It has a P2T4 transmission. We have no clue what car this is from. What we're presently suspecting, is that the rear L bracket comes from an Accord and not a Prelude, which could be accounting for the tilting problem the engine has. If the L bracket is not the right one for the mounts, we could also try swapping it out, as the OEM part is not that expensive for the US VTEC Prelude and it would save us all the work we have to do on it as stated earlier.

Thanks for any info guys!

What rear OEM bracket are you trying to use to mount the rear HCP mount to your tranny/rear block ?

Should be using a Prelude stock rear mount. If you are, have you tried tilting the motor to allow the bolts to line up? Also the rear mount and the passenger mount should have been the 1st ones to be bolted it. Drivers side last. That is how I have done it and always works. HCP mounts work the best

good luck

Dan Newton from JDMshit just replied. It's as we suspected, it's not a Prelude rear bracket since the engine isn't from a Prelude (we had no idea from what it came). We'll swap it out tonight.

Like I said, we couldn't bolt up the rear and side since the driver side mount would then have one wicked looking angle to it. That's the best we got it to fit. Seeing how the Accord bracket is shorter and will tilt the engine back more and not fit with custom mounts, everything is as it should be I guess.

Thanks anyway!
