i got an h22 swap in my civic. i would like to know the year of the motor. my engine code is 3044857 and my head is stamped with the year "97". this does not make sense. the way you read the engine code to find out the year of production is that the first number represents the number of years since that motor was first made right? h22a's first started in 92 right? which would mean that my motor is a 94, according to the engine code.(92=1, 93=2,94=3). it doesnt make sense that my head would be stamped as a 97, unless the block and the head are from different years. someone help!!!........BTW im running an obd1 ecu, which means that my head has to be a 97, and my block on obd1(92-95) right?

For the ludes, obd1 was 93-96, and obd2 was 97+ i thought. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.

96 was OBDII, I believe. It was wierd though because it was still an H22A1. Sort of a transitional kinda thing.
If your block is from 97+, it will be stamped H22A4.
Either way it doesn't matter, you can run either engine with an OBDI or OBDII ecu given the proper wiring.
I'm a little confused: who cares what year the head is? I thought it was only the older blocks that were more desirable than the new ones?
