Default H22 EK axle/tranny problem, help Please

I have a 00 si with a h series swap, when I bought the car the owner said that the pas side axle was starting to go. No biggie I thought, so I just replaced it with a hasport axle to match the new one on the driver side and there is still a horrible clunking/grinding/popping noise when I reverse or shift and let the tranny "slack" a little. My question is what would be the next thing to look at? Is it possible that there is something wrong in the tranny? The noise sounds like it coming from the pas. side center somewhere idk where to go from here. Thanks guys

is it possible for one of the hasport motor/tranny mounts to have gone bad and cause binding? I dont even really know how to check for that
