is it a good idea to put a b20 in a del sol?
Like the tittle says i am thinking of getting a crv and taking the b20 and putting it where my b16 is and sell the b16 on clist instea of worrying about a possible pos work b16? I can get a crv for possibly $5-600 running and have b serieies headers so i can take most stuff from the crv and junk the shell or part it out on here? Thouhts concerns? Thanks

you could do that and give me the b16 haha. but realistically i would just leave the b16 there. unless you were gonna take the b20 and make it fully built then yes id do that

Well where i live i really only have one of the very few b series hondas and most likely the only b16 but theres alot of crvs and i can buy from dealer auction and get my mechanic to drop it in and do the swap and well it would be cheaper than finding the rest of the b16 parts. Id still most likely keep the b16 trans or do u reccomend the b20? Did the crv cpme in stick? Sorry if i sound like a noob but down in the south its domestic trucks and muscle cars no tuners really over here

Here's a thought - where do you live? A B20 is federally classified as a light truck motor, and is thus federally illegal to put in a car. If you live anywhere that you have to deal with smog checks, or even more-than-just-safety inspections, you will NOT pass.
You could get just as much power with less hassle of dealing with a junked CRV by swapping in an LS motor, or other B18, and stroking it to 2L.

Well where i nobody cares if u got kods or jot ive been rockin illegal tint on my truck and yea i can get by safety inspection no problem. Again the use domestic so most cant tell the difference of the b16 and b20. I saw a b18 at the junkyard but its been opened up. I really wouldnt mind the b18 but i gotta find a good one at the auction so really the first one that works good should he a idea to get.

I dont get it. So you will buy a crv just for the engine, then pay someone to put it in another car?
Why don't you just buy a b20?

Because with the crv i cam see it running and then i can get it swapped and then scrap the shell unlike with just the b20 also the crv has the parts there unlike if u get a b20 it might be missing stuff causing more cash to be spent. Id buy it for about $500 then spend a couple hundred to get it swapped then sell the shell for $300 and its still cheaper and easier then looking for a b20 around here. Closest place that theres a tuner scene is 2 hours away....

So how hard do you think it would be to repin and wire it up? More than its worth? In money wise id be paying my mech to do the swap but if its that much of an *** to do then time is money and itd probably be cheaper to go on the 2 hour trip and find a wrecked teg on copart

So is it really a bad idea? I saw some threads on other sites and people have done em. I really just wanna get this thing up but i didnt do the work on the b16 so dont know if it was done correctly or if id have to get a legit place to work on it then spend way more than if i swapped a bigger b in

Really I would do a B20 Vtec. Use the B20 block with ITR rep pistons, your B16 head and all the goodys you can from the B16, get some Type R cams and have fun. You will have all the low end of the 2.0L and the top end from Vtec, makes for a very fun car to drive and will pull hard off the line to red line. Since you have the B16 already in the Sol and you will be getting a complete CRV you will have everything you need to swap the motor, all you will need to have done by a pro is the tuning for the B20 Vtec. It will be a drop in swap.

Ok but wiring wise how much of a nightmare would it be? Do they have conversion harnesses? I wont be doing it but if its terrible then my mechanic will be charging me an arm n leg. I mean id do it but dont have anywhere to do ita and dont have the tools

So you want to spend well over $1000 to be without your car for probably over a month, have an extra vehicle to sell and pull the motor from, only to swap in a motor with 20 less horsepower? And you're not even going to bother searching this website for the wealth of knowledge that has been shared for years, you are expecting everyone to just reply with everything you want to know...
I'm dying to know... where are you finding these perfectly good CRVs for $5-600?
