Getting a 1999 EX Civic Coupe but don't know what swap to get.
Alright, I pretty much know what I wanna do. I wanna do N/A 200whp+, and ITR motor is the best way to go from what people say for daily driving, and some say the lsVtec would be a good way to go as well. So I've been searching for about a month now, and from what i've seen and read people that have both motor's for daily driving aren't having problems. I know I need B series mounts, axles, etc etc, for either LSVTEC or ITR motor. I talked to my friend and he said that going jdm b16a first then take out the jdm b16 motor and replacing it with a LS/VTEC or ITR motor is double the labor, and I thought it was the cheapest thing to do instead of spending 4k for a ITR motor, ecu, and tranny since I would already have the jdm b16 tranny with a OEM LSD and all the mounts, axles, and half shaft I'd need, and the only items I would have to get would be the 4.78 final gearing for 1/4 and top end. So in everyone's opinion, which is the best and cheapest route to go?

They all have pros and cons, and if you really wanted to you could do a b16 w/ 200+whp. We aren't going to make your decision for you.

I know, but eh, I hear it's a bitch trying to get a b16 to hit 200whp+...and I kinda wanted a motor that can do it easiler but yet I wouldnt have to worry about anything ******* up on it..I know cars aren't perfect, but I would like to stay outta the shop u know. People say u shouldn't rev high on the LSVTEC or B20VTEC, but me, I'd probably rev high maybe once or maybe 2wice a day or mainly on the weekends..

From what I've seen you can go to about 8000 rpm daily on LSVTEC/B20VTEC. I'm not saying you can, but that is what I've seen.
For all intents and purposes, i have an h22 w/ just boltons and I'm around 200whp.

Really? I bet that thing is mean as hell....cause see I thought if I get a b16, I would have all my b series parts needed, and just swap out the engine and replace it with a ITR motor, I thought it was cheaper that way.

I'm sure it would be similar, not more than $1k difference. You can do a full h22 swap for pretty cheap if you are careful and can do it yourself. My friend spent $3200 on his.

Re: (Austinbionic316)
Like i said it's up to you and what you want, you can there with both setups. H swap is a smidge harder and requires more parts, but the actual motor is cheaper to buy and replace.
You'll probably make about the same power if you are just going mild and you will probably initially spend within $1000 of each swap.
H has a little more weight, same power, more potential (bigger displacement), and is less expensive.
C5 has less weight, same power, less overall potential, nearly twice as expensive for a swap.

Re: (Austinbionic316)
i didn't, i put it in myself. You can keep both a/c and ps, you just have to be creative w/ the fan for the a/c condensor (at least my experience) and get the PS pump-to-steering line fixed up. other than that is a straight forward install.
By the way, I have a 1999 EX Civic Coupe.

Re: (Austinbionic316)
buy it, you'll love it, it's a low 14s high 13s full weighted ex w/ i/h/e.
Or at least that's been my experience.
