F22a1 Dohc Vtec build using F20b head and F20b pistons on F22b1 rods
This is my first all motor build but i'm on a budget. No job right know so things are a little hectic but i'm going to do this build though. Have the pistons and rods at my local machine shop can't get any info untill maybe after the holidays are over.
I have the g22vtec on right now but the block is knocking so that's why i want to rebuild it but my way though keep in mind the block has 280xxx miles. Here are some pics to show how everything looks right now but when i'm done it's gona make me a proud engine builder.....Oh i didn't mention i will be doing all the work except for the pistons which are at the shop.

Nice build, subscribed.
This definitely has potential. 11.5-12:1 CR with a 95 x 86 block. What are you using for engine management/tuning?

Well right now i'm using my p28 but i will definitely need a tune after the initial start up don't want to f**k this build up i would be very upset. I'm gonna post more pics as the days go by just to keep you fellas interested. The compression will be at 11.78:1 and rev limit will be at 8k tops that's good enough for me. Oh and it's stock 85mm bore but if anything i have an extra f22b1 block to bore out to 86mm just in case.

Next thing is going to be the block i'm using right now it's my f22a1 gonna take it apart but i'm procrastinating maybe because i want everything to be ready for installation so that's why i'm waiting till thursday to buy my headgasket, piston rings, and main/rod bearings online and maybe get the block honed.

Oh at the end I might put my supercharger on it's from a Toyota mr2 it's an SC14 roots type and it has an inter-cooler going with it. My little bro's dad's friend did the fabrication so that i can put it where my a/c used to be. He did a hell of a job making the bracket. Might take pics later it's poooring out right now.

Great build, but how is the supercharger going to work when it was designed to spin clockwise instead of anti-clockwise like Honda motors? Or have you modified the internals of it?

That supercharger is clockwise or counter clockwise rotation you will yield to about the same psi either way. I researched it for a while and came up with the idea to use it so i bought it cheap for $120 that's a steal they are worth 400-600 anywhere else.

I'm gonna order my stuff tomorrow and then start taking apart my block. This shouldn't take me more than 8 hours total.

Re: F22a1 Dohc Vtec build using F20b head and F20b pistons on F22b1 rods
So today i finally got the motor out took it apart and i was expecting a super small looking decrepit rod or main but took all the pistons and rods out and nothing not even one scratch on the journals. I was wondering what caused the knocking but this **** got me trippin I mean not even one scratch nor the rods were loose and the block has 280,xxx miles and compared to the other crank i have this one looks similar maybe a bit cleaner. Anyway it took me 5 hours to remove everything from the car no engine hoist just me solo but took a total of 10 hours to remove the crank and all that bull.

Re: F22a1 Dohc Vtec build using F20b head and F20b pistons on F22b1 rods
I was having an oil leak when i first did the head swap and was wondering if it was the headgasket that i reused or the headstuds reused but i found out why it leaks on the f22a1 blocks. The two pics that i posted up of the head is where the headgasket barely covers the oil ports near the rear mount or where the vtec solenoid is. The other two i covered with rtv sealer which held up perfect but now i know that the opposite side of the head also needs a little rtv sealer just around the edges of the the two oil ports. so this time it's gonna be leak free.

As for my update i just went to the machine shop today and gave them the block to get cleaned and honed for 80 bucks he would of charged me more than 100 but were on the same page. It's gonna take a week for him cause he has other parts to clean and what not but i'm in no rush want this thing running right with absolutely no leaks no smoke and no oil burning.

Re: F22a1 Dohc Vtec build using F20b head and F20b pistons on F22b1 rods
So i was on the sticky thread about break-in motor advice and man that scares me last thing i need is to have my rings not seal correctly and cause a whole bunch of bull to happen instantly. I'm sticking to that break-in advice but the only thing is that my car runs rich at start up you can smell it pure gas but it doesn't smoke black at all not even on the g22vtec before the teardown nor on my f20b(used the same chip on all with the 345cc injectors). I had another chip that was for h22 345cc and that one was perfect but on high compression f20b ran smooth. Any advice on rich AFR when beginning the break-in i need to make sure rings seal correctly without the gas killing my sealing mode.
