You should at least get the second gen obd1 motor. The 1st gen b16 comes with the wrong kind of tranny. There are mount kits and cable to hydro conversions available so you can make the 1st gen work, but by the time you pay for all that, you could've just got the 2nd gen(and had 10 more hp).
If you live in a small town, they you probably dont need to worry about emissions or saftey inspection.
So I would:
-Purchase the obd1 swap
-you need the rear tranny bracket and timing belt mounting bracket(you need the brakcet that bolts to the block) from a '99-'00 SI.
-you need to use your stock '97 engine harness and put it on the obd1 motor(this will include changing distributor plugs, injector plugs, and alternator plug).
-Then buy a obd2a-obd1 jumper harness and plug in the obd1 b16 ecu.

The complete swap should include: complete motor, tranny, ecu, engine harness, axles, shift linkage and all the mounts.
You'll have to buy the rear tranny bracket, timing belt mounting braket, and jumper harness seperately.
