Default engine swap

anyone have any suggestions on swapping a new quicker engine in my 1997 honda crv? it has a 2.0, in it right now. no power what so ever. need some advice.

Turbocharge it, because trying to keep AWD is going to be difficult with an engine swap.

i dont care about the AWD. i dont live in the mountains. and it barely snows here. i want a new engine in it. anything that'll fit, with vtec. something quick. but i also need advice on switching from automatic to manual if i put a new engine in.

You're talking about a mountain of work to do. If you simply want some better performance figures, build the B20 that's already in the car. You can snag a VTEC head off of a B16 for cheap, and throw in some higher compression pistons if you like. That'd easily get you some better performance figures. A manual transmission swap will be rather difficult and mounting the shifter and the transmission will require some metal fabrication, to say the least. The clutch pedal and cylinder won't take much to install, but the rest will. Not to mention all the electrical and ECU issues to deal with.

It would be easier to keep the auto, but then you're stuck with long *** gears in a 4 speed trans.
