EK hatch refresher
So ive been in possession of this ek hatch for many years now. I like driving it and I like the mpg. It's a 1997 with 160k and the AC is on the fritz. The paint is also pretty ugly. Instead of getting a new beater I've tossed around the idea of freshening it up, making it "newer". My thoughts:
-K24A4: No its not the 200hp vtec killer but at 160/160 it should be perfect for DD duty, and the k24a4 can be had for $500-$800 complete long block
-Either 5 or 6 speed: I'm assuming 6 speed better for mpg
-A respray of black paint: Not an overly expensive job, I can prep in my garage. The paint needs help and I could get rid of the dents in the process
-New AC compressor with adapters for K-swap
-OEM weatherstripping, carpet, replace worn interior panels, seats, etc.
I'm thinking this can be done for around (or under) $4k.

Re: EK hatch refresher
4 grand is probably what you're looking at minus paint. k swaps are expensive. axles, wiring harness, ecu, mounts, swap header, clutch, shifter box, etc. not to mention the a/c kit is $399.
