EF gsr speed sensor

EF gsr speed sensor
I know this has been searched for ages, however I want to make sure I have no underlying issues prior to wiring this up.
Facts:
EF (1990 dx)
DPFI to MPFI (completed successfully)
electronic VSS on SIR hydraulic trans. As far as I understand it correctly: With the snap portion of the plug facing away from me I have wire colors: black/black-yellow/orange.
I understand these to be power/signal/ground.
I have pinned the signal to my ECU at plug B10, as per a p28 obd1 pinout (ecu im running).
My confusion begins here, all 3 wires get a voltage of around 4-5V.
I'm no wiring expert thus I am confused how out of these 3 I have a ground wire with voltage?
Additionally, I grounded the black wire only to blow my ecu fuse repeatedly.
Would appreciate some direction.
