Default Secondaries WILL open when motor is reved in neutral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondaries do open when motor is reved past 6k on a OBD2 GSR. Probably the same for other GSR's, but I have a 98 motor.

Sorry about the quality, that vid is from my Coolpix3100 digital camera.

The car is a 93 Cx with a 98 GSR motor (usdm) / stock OBD1 p72 ECU. I had my father get the rpm's up to about 7k and they did not open. Before I start cutting wires I would like to know if they open in neutral or only when the car is in gear.

yes they open, I have seen the solenoid "open up" as my motor was revved, to what rpm i don't know, we were just checking to see if it was working

If everything is in order they will indeed open up while the car is parked and being revved in neutral.

Just have someone watch the car when you start it... the IAB will close at idle (or anything below 5800RPM). If the solenoid is getting power and the vac tank is connected right, it'll work -- and this is a great easy test.

I had my father rev the car up to 7k last week and I didn't see the rod move down as shown in this pic:

I'm going to give it 12v and see what happens. I think it's being grounded right now

Thanks for all the help

Start the car and pull that vac line off of the diaphragm and test for vacuum. If you don't have any, then it's the wiring. Try reversing polarity. Again, I'm not 100% certain, but I think OBD2 motors want 12V to activate the IAB whereas OBD1's use ground.

I thought that the car had to be in motion for the IAB to open. The VTEC will only kick in if the car is in motion though, right?

It wont engage unless you have a vafc. Then it will engage in neutral.

Actually, the secondaries are opening. I spliced in at the power junction harness as you said. The vid a few posts up seems to be working for some and not for others. It shows the secondaries opening
