Default D16z6 in 94cx (d15b8) - couple questions

I'd love to swap in a b18b1 or b18c1 but can't yet afford it...

So maybe a d16z6, if the money i'd need to pay for the power would be worth it...
Heh, i just recently got a toolkit with a socket wrench, so I've got a lot to learn, and a lot of tools to buy, but maybe I could start out with a helms and a cheap motor (the d16z6) as my first project...

I assume I can't use my stock tranny (don't know the code - in my '94 cx hb) - i'll need to buy one from an ex/si to go with the motor... true?

As an alternative, could I just get a cylinder head from a d16z6 and bolt it on my block? Would the power gain & vtec be worth the effort?

If I bought a complete d16z6 changeover, what should I expect to pay? Haven't seen d16z6's offered at the various online salvages besides sohfast ($1500 for powertrain), but before I email the other ones with what i'm interested in, I'd appreciate some input

Thanks in advance.
Dylan

Default Re: D16z6 in 94cx (d15b8) - couple questions (kuric)

you can reuse your old tranny (all d-series trannies are interchangable) longest you keep it hydraulic menaing 92-00 civic (d-series) you be fine, the only problem the CX poses is the long gearing and too low of final drive, this why you should upgrade

the head fromt he vtec will fit, but CX pistons are for 8valves so they will need to be changed to those of DX or (16valve d15b), you are better off again just getting a 92-00 d16z6 or d16y8 either will work with few mods

other mods required are ECU (a P28 from the EX/Si)

usually you can get a complete tranny, motor and ecu combo for around $500-800, most shops want more just look around, when people do a swap they usually get rid of theirs very cheap.
