d series in a 3rd gen lude?
i know it sounds dumb... my stock b20a5 from my 91 2.0 si is runnin on 3 cylinders (#3 got toasted a couple months ago) and i was considering putting in a d series if i could find one really cheap at a junkyard. i dont need the car as my mom gave me her celica but i was thinkin about doin it more for just the knowledge i'd gain from doing a swap. i've never done anything besides real basic maintenance on a car and i really wanna get into doin some real **** so i figure i mind as well practice on a piece of **** before i do anything to a car thats worth anything. eventually i'd like to compleatly build a b or k series (probably k since itll be a while till i have the funds) and run atleast like 14 psi.
anyway, would it bolt up to the stock mounts? would i need a kit? does anyone even make a kit? would my stock transmission work with a d series? how hard would a swap like this be for someone with little/no experience? how hard would it be to hook up the electronics? i believe my lude has a obd1 setup but i dont really know what i'm talking about. i by far know the least about electronics when it comes to cars.
i probably will just junk the car... but i'm just trying to get an idea of how plausible it would be to swap an engine in myself. like i said, i really wanna do it just to get the experience and learn something. thanks in advance for any info.

actually its obd0 i think.
also, i was looking at this honda engine swap guide from sport compact car... and they say for basically every d and b series "but why?" for putting it in a 3rd gen lude. i dont really understand this b/c the b20a engines sucked. they really didnt make any power. i would think a d series would drive very similarly to the b20a.

hmmm, the b20a has torque, the d16 doesnt,
what makes you think they would drive similarly?
just go with H22A... the only real option in the 3rd gen...

the thing is i dont wanna spend the dough for a h series... like i said, i basically just wanna do this to learn some ****. plus my old engine was pretty hurting the entire time i had it so i'm thinking a newer d series should be atleast better than what was in it.
how much would a junkyard h22 be? how about a f22?

if your looking for a cheaper swap go f22 or h23 non vtec, no the d16 won't be easy it won't bolt up, it would need a of custom things like mounts, and no it wont bolt to your tranny, even if you got a f22 swap free it would still cost some money to buy certain parts like mounts, expect to pay at least around 1000 bucks for misc. swap parts

how cheap could i get a f or h series? like 600 bucks maybe?
also, will my transmission bolt up to anything besides a b20a5? my tranny is old but the clutch is brand new (only 3k on it) so i'd like to save one or both if i can. plus honda trannys are rock hard so i'm not really worried about the age on the tranny.
thx alot.

get rid of the car if your going to be a cheap ***........this is a lame swap. The more costly thing to do is, take head off and get it redone, more than likely one of the exhaust valves is bent.
