Default CRX B16, off time? Code 23 and idle prob.

B16 in a crx, has been throwing a code 9 (cly sensor) since we got it put in and it's been idling real rough with a miss (not driveable). Replaced the cly sensor which didn't help and then just got a replacement distibutor. My brother put the distributor on and when he did he had it slightly retarded unlike the previous one. Now it runs slightly better but it's still missing and idling rough. I also advanced the timing back and even more than before and then it won't even start. Also the code 9 went away and a code 23 (knock sensor) comes on after it's reved for a while.

My question which I think is what's wrong, Is the timing belt off one tooth? If so is the engine (valvetrain) still ok if we set it back? I know they are a zero tolerance motor. Also why would a engine just off the boat be off time? Any help would be gratly appreciated!!!

Checked firing order, plug wires, plugs, distributor, and wiring. We're gonna check the physical timing tuesday when we get a light.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Check cam to crank timing. It sounds like you are either off one tooth or the firing order is wrong. Or the distributor is bad.

That's what I said before. Distributor is not bad two have been tried and tested. Firing order is right per service manual and by looking at my motor. I'm pretty sure it's one tooth off but like I said before I wanted someone who has had this happen before to tell me their opnion on what they did or how it could have happened on a good imported motor.

this happen to me when i installed a b17 into a ef..it ended up being the map sensor,,id check the map and also take your side engine cover and check to see if its off a tooth...if was off a tooth and u ran it it might have bent some vavles and that would cause your shitty running condition...id do a compression test on it soon also...
