ive heard it is a wallet drainer.. can someone give me an estimate, just an estimate if not an exact bill to how much it would be to make a complete swao into an eg hatch? thanks
you can do the cheap way and use b20 crank, b18c head, pr3 (jdm b16a sir) pistons, and hondata... (less than $3k? if you look hard enough)
or go fully built so you motor can actually handle the compression and wear n tear. and spend $4-5+ thousands of dollars.

im not looking at the second for a fully built.. im seeing, how much would it be to do the swap. you dont need to "fully build" it right when you stick it in do you???

yes for ls/b20-vtec, you might want better pistons. But GSR's, or b16s can get away with high compression stock pistons, such as ctr, or p30s in a gsr. Go take a look at http://www.thepartstrader.com and see how many ls-vtecs people are selling. Why? because it takes patience, money, and experience to do it right.
Yes you can drop the motor in, but don't expect to drive hard. My friend had a b16 stroked to 1.8 and had 12.5:1 JE pistons. He has running an LS ecu. If he were to go above 5-6 rpm (which he never went near), his motor would blow because the ls ecu didn't deliver enough fuel for the compression.
to avoid complications, you can always build a b20 with cams, intake manifold and a good set of i/h/e. you can always raise the compression and modify the ecu to give more fuel, but don't expect to go too high with the comp.

well compared to my stock motor ( 95 cx ) anything will drive hard... but yeah, people keep saying that you really have to build it up well when you make it v-tec.. but im wondering do you seriously have to build it up build it up!.. or can you drop the motor in, tap the oil lines, and i guess get new pistons and be set to go with a different ecu..?
Man...with the $1000 you are going to spend on sourcing a b20 block...you could get a high mileage LS engine for dirt cheap...I picked one up once for $100 and get that mother sleeved and bored to 84mm which is the only difference between an LS and a CRV engine. The bore..no special cranks, no different blocks..just an oversized bored LS block. Look into it. Now if you ever decide to go turbo you are ready for it.
Yes it will be pricey to build a reliable properly built b20/VTEC. You could always find a cheap ls block and bore it too. But to answer the question yes it costs alot to build a nice reliable b20 set up. If you can get hook ups on parts and the labor then it will be alot cheaper but paying outright it would be around 4 or 5.
