Default Cost of a swap?

I have a 96 Civic EX auto, about how much could I expect to pay to swap a b16 or even a b18 (GSR, i don't know the engine code) into my car. I am sure I would have to convert from auto to manual to do the swap. So what's a good number, 5k-6k? Basically I would be dropping the car off and picking it up when it's done, since I live in an apartment and have never done serious work like this on a Honda before.

Thanks
Matt

It all depends on where you get the motor, who does the work, and how together the swap actually is. You can get a b16 for anywhere from a 1000 to 3000 dollars and a gsr for probably 2500 to 4000. It all depends on how new the motor is. It possible, rare, but possible to get an auto trans for those motors. More than likely you will have to put in a manual. Again it depends on how much you can get that done for, you would have to change the trans mount and put the extra pedal in.

There's alot of great information on this board, you just gotta search for it. The question you ask is a really broad question.

hmm save that money for urslef.. i have been a part of 2 swaps where i was helping my friend.. well you need a lot of patience as well as $$$$$$$$$$ i would say if u are really planning to spend 5-6k for a b16-b18 swap on your civic which is a auto to begin with.... just go to the classifieds section and buy yourself a swapped car.. it will be much cheaper than what you will end up with... trust meeeee

also my friend and i just swapped a SR20DET into a AUTO 240.. GOOD LORD i hate wiring diagrams that come of the net.. they are NEVER accurate and life gets really miserable when you are in the middle of somethign and thigns dont seem right. well the motor was NOT a problem but installing the new brake gas clutch as well as the a new brake and clutch cylinders.. hmm a lot of work man.. i thoguth these were the thigns that would NOT take time at all but hmm it sure took us long for just doig the basic auto to manual swap.. good luck !!!

one a second note... my friend is selling a b18C1 GSR motor w/o tranny for 2500.. it has type r cams and one other thign that i simply cant remember.. let me know if u r interested

When you do the auto to manual swap you gotta be careful. the tranny mount is going to need to be moved so you going to have to cut it off and weld a new one on. and a word of advice... make the list of EVERYTHING your gonna need before you start working on the conversion. other wise you will forget some thing small and have to wait like 3 more days for the part to finish the conversion. not cool

that is absolutely incorrect on an EK you DO NOT HAVE TO CUT THE TRANS MOUNT AND REWELD all you have to do is use the 5 speed trans bracket.
