code 22 after b18c6 install
i got a code 22 (vtec oil pressure) after swapping a b16a2 for a b18c6, i am using all the itr bits that attatch to the engine along with the itr loom but am using the p30 ecu.
the code comes on even before i start the motor, i have checked my oil and reset the ecu and the code comes up even before the motor is started (when i searched, every one else who had this code got it at high rpm's)
from this i am assuming that it is a wiring problem or a problem with mismatched components (ie a itr vtec soleniod on a b16a2 ecu)
both are uk spec
i'd check the wiring, but although i know which part is the vtec soleniod, i dont know where the oil pressure sensor is, never mind what it looks like.
thanks in advance
not gonna be long now until i can take it 4 a blast

Re: code 22 after b18c6 install (InfamousRS)
i think its part b18c5 and part jdm b18c spec r. i dont know which parts, and i might be lying but it only has 187 bhp, but they get JDM final drive (or something close)..... but yes, it is basically/exactly? the same as a b18c5, infact i call it a b18c5 sometimes when i am writing posts.
i wouldn't mind knowing myself actually
it's the euro itr engine if thats what ur askin

check oil pressure to your vtec solenoid....there should be a 10mm bolt right in the front of the head where the solenoid is...have you driven it to see if your vtec is working?
the oil pressure sender is in the back of the block next to the oil filter....it has a big black rubber plug connected to it...
have you tried to see if all the vtec plugs are plugged in and clean? maybe the solenoid itself
what I would do is check the oil coming to the solenoid using the oil test port on the head

here, this is from somthing i wrote a while ago, it pretty much applies to you (all the oil related stuff)
good luck
edit: if all that checks out you are gonna need to get an oil pressure tester.
if the pressure is low, you might have to replace the oil pump.

These are some basic steps for why vtec isnt working.
1) Oil level, its gotta be FULL. I'm talking at the upper mark on the dipstick.
2) Solenoid, Ok this is a 2 parter. A) take a wire (any wire) disconnect the grey plug (1 pin connector) on the vtec solenoid and touch the wire to the pos. battery terminal and the solenoid side of the grey 1 pin connector. there should be an audible click from the solenoid. B) If A checks out, remove the solenoid and clean the filter screen. (self explanatory)
3) Speed, the car must be going over 10 mph so the spedo must be working. that means the VSS has to be working. vtec is temperamental isn't it?
4) more oil, check the oil pan. if its dented POUND IT OUT!. this is why mine wasn't working. the pan was dented in far enough to hit the oil pickup for the pump to cause low pressure situation in the head, no pressure no vtec.
5) ECU Swap out to another ECU that you KNOW vtec works on.
6) Car must be at I belive its 80 degrees or higher so let car get to a normal operating temprature.
Thats a basic troubleshoot for it. if i missed anything or got anything wrong just reply and ill change the info.
If you go through all this and it still doesn't work its oil pressure (the pump) or wiring related. so check all the wires for vtec.
Thats it i hope it helps some people.

Re: code 22 after b18c6 install (KAMiN)
thanks for the replies slow *** 4dr and kamin, thats exacly what i was looking for, i'm sure its gonna be something daft, cause i just installed the engine on my own and the biggest job i did before that was fitting lowering springs.
possibly a wire off, or the oil pan is pushed in about an inch in the middle, could be that aswell. if it wasn't raining, i'd be fixing it now.
i'll keep u'z posted, thanks again boys
p.s will i need anything like new gasket etc if i remove the oil pan, and can i use the one off my b16a2?....if i do, is it as good?

Is there a VTEC oil pressure sensor plug right there by the VTEC solenoid. It's all on that same piece that's attached to the end of the exhaust cam. I know on the JDM versions that plug is not there. But we have it on the US spec ones. I just don't know about the UK version.
