Default to chip or not to chip

just wondering, for my 'stock' B20VTEC with PR3 ECU.

what are the pros/cons of soldering in a socket and pluging in a chip, like a Mugen N1 chip...

do i keep closed loop? what is the idle like? any other things i may lose?

any good sites that can give me this info?

who are trusted ECU chip sources...

thanks,

t..

EDIT: can i get a chip with a teg type R program that would work on non-OBD ecu?

here my experence with mugen chip. I have a built b20vtec with 11.5 cr, with stock b16 head. I ran a mugen chip and was detonating crazie until i lower the timming to like 14. I say you want a good ecu, save up for Hondata s100 and get it tune. But if you dont want too, I heard PYR b20vtec chip is pertty nice or you can go to http://www.prospeed-performance.com. This guy Ben, has some crazie *** knowlegde about ecu.

Talk to Kenji too. he's very knowledgable of ECU's.

as well as B18C-EJ1 (Adam).

I personally don't like any of the Mugen1 or Spoon1 progs... I haven't felt or seen the Spoon 2 but i have dealt with the first two... In a GSR/EG running a chipped P72 they both seem to lag a bit before VTEC... Once they get above that tho they feel okay... It really bugs the hell out of me tho... I chipped my friend's non OBD PR3 with a Spoon1 prog. and it lags like **** in his GSR/CRX... We haven't tested a Mugen prog in it yet and i'm not really anxious to cuz I just didn't like it in the EG..... My friend's high compression CRVTEC/EK just runs a stock USDM ITR ECU and a VAFC... He's never put it on the dyno but it seems to make some pretty good power... Atleast enough to run a 12.62@107 in a full interior EK... Hondata

um, hook me up with one of them!

so basically a chip is a cheap and nasty way of making my maps richer and more aggressive.

if i was serious i should use Hondata stage II shouldnt I?

problem is that the closest Hondata tuner is 1000km away...

will i lose closed loop operation with a Mugen chip???

Are all chips the same, ie. is my Mugen, Skunk2, Vision, or Feels chip the same as Joe Blows down the street?

I am runnin p28 with Vision chip right now because the vtec engagement was at what felt like the best rpm for it. If I could get some time, I would dyno the car with all four and see which one offered the optimal performance...maybe one day.

Thats all I can offer.

I say go hondata s100 that is the best ecu upgrade you can get cuz you can get it custom pogramed so that it will work best with you set up.

s100 is only obd1 onwards i believe... (PR3 = obd0)

plus - my closest Hondata tuner is over 1000km away in Victoria.

Hondata could care less...

so i am looking into Aussie made standalone ECUs like Wolf, Microtech, Autronic etc...

or a V-AFC.

a chip may be a waste of time, money and effort...

Chip pfftttt.

Idles better, drives better BUT mine could have had a fault before.

Cold start is a bit rough but if you want that perfect it is a pain to get right on the dyno cause the thing warms up before you can get the settings right.

DO NOT GET A VAFC POS!!! Not a good form of engine management. Fooling sensors fools no-one!!!

You wait til you see my graph!!!

Have you seen a Microtech being tuned.....INCREDIBLE!!!

(Does it sound like I like this type of stand alone)
