Default check code

We just finished a 95 b18c1 2.0 swap into my buddys 90 crx si. We are using a 88-91 b16 ecu. He is getting a code 23, we have replaced the knock sensor but the code is still there. Can code 23 be anything else. His vtec also cuts in and out sometimes. Do we need to run a shealded wire for the knock sensor? I've never had to do this on any of the other swaps before. But I guess we will be trying that next.
