Can you help this problem?

B18A1 surging and misses.
1990 ED hatch, Si trim with a 92 B18A1.
Swapped the ECU.
Completely Rebuilt the engine. Shaved the head .020...
Gives me a code for the CYP sensor (AKA # cylinder position sensor).
The car has a surge, until it warms up.
Also has one BITCH of a miss when revving past 3000 wheter warm or not.
Can anyone help me figure out the reason for the surge and the miss? I cannot think if anything else that was wrong with the car. We timed it and retimed it and retimed it to make sure the cams were dead on. Still not sure about that one.
Anyone's advice on what to start with is greatly appreciated.

your symptoms conjour up these thoughts:
1) timing belt has slipped a tooth.
and/or
2) the distributor is going bad (either the ignitor or coil).
and/or
3) a ground wire isn't grounded.
and/or
4) if the ecu has been reprogrammed lately, perhaps it has an eprom chip that is not fully installed correctly or had a bad burn during the programming procedure.

you should really try and fix this code first. if u've set ur timing 3 times.. and if u've done it right, then chances are ur timing is OK.
fix what your car is telling you is broken first, then go from there.

I think he might be closer than anyone else yet.
Although I have done the camming 3 tmies, I still am not 100% of its trueness. Given that and the fact that the head is milled .020... He might have just hit the problem on the head.
Does the D16A distributor have the same sensor in it? I can try that distrib, to see if the problems go away.
