Default Ca Ref Question

i was wondering if i have a 91 Da with a b18a1 and wana swap it with a b16 or a b18c1 i know ill have to switch obd's and its 1.8 and 1.6 will i have to get my car Reffed to pass smog since its not the same motor and i was also wondering if its the same thing with d series motors. thanks in advance

if the moter wasnt offerd in the car in california then you need to get it reffed

If it's not the b18a1 engine you're replacing it with then YES you will have to bar it... unless you find someone to smog it for you for a price.

The main things that matter are:
motor is the year o the car or newer(matching OBD would be best)
-ALL smog equipment must be installed correctly and working(can use an aftermarket cat, but oem seems to burn cleaner)
-All wiring is OEM spec or better(IE: soldered and heatshrunk)
-US spec ECU for that motor


some additional things I'd reccomend:
-seafoam (just follow the directions)
-FULL tuneup(cap, rotor, plugs, wires)
-borrow an OEM cat
-fresh oil change
-run the car really hard for at least 30 min right before going for the test
-say a prayer
