Buying motors from reputable companies...Are they RIPPING us off?
Okay, first off guys...I'm no noob, been a member since 03 (SigleyEK). Haven't gone on HT in a year, tried to sign on recently and my account wont work for unknown reasons...
Anyway...
Companies like Hmotorsonline and other reputable companies online and offline. Most of these companies are official and efficient when buying used JDM full swaps and parts as well. My question is, are they lieing to us when they say that their swaps are guaranteed to have 40-50K miles on them? I bought my swap last year from a reputalbe company in California and it came with a couple of broken sensors that they refused to replace, so i replaced them myself. Other then that, I never had any problems with it and it runs and looks very decent, and it's also very clean under the head.
BUT...I hear that these companies could be lieing about how many miles they have on their motors. I am fully aware that these JDM's are shipped from Japan, and theres no telling what kind of abuse/miles/etc. there is on them...but if this is the case, why do they GUARANTEE less than 50K on them????
I'm just curious, because it would be nice to know the approximate amount of miles on my motor...Atleast a ballpark guess...Thanks
SORRY if this is a repeated topic

I am assuming most of the motor swaps these companies get come with the front clip, so I would assume the gauge clusters would still be there and perhaps tell the k/m's on the thing??

after a certain # of miles in japan(30 000 i think), you must pass a E-test sorta thing which costs you over 2000$ USD therefore most people send their cars to the junkyard instead of trying to pass it. it is VERRY VERRY expencive to own and operate a car in japan. so the junkyards fill up with low milage cars

Re: (EG type GTR)
i have never seen one that GUARNTEES 40,000 miles.
and there is no way to tell without the cluster. my RB25 clip showed up with 125k KM on it. but the engine is flawless.

the only reason they do it is because there's a demand for those motors, of course people are gonna lie about mileage. people are willing to buy motors on the word of someone else on their condition, so you think they're going to tell you when it's high mileage? Probably not... esp when you have no way of telling if they're lying or not.
the only thing you can do about it is to move to Japan and start exporting some motors yourself

one of the engines i imported had a cluster with it that said 121,000 km which is aorund 75k, and on top of that it also had a 3 puck clutch that was worn to the rivets. it also was a 1993 engine....i got it in 2001.

your dreaming if you think ur gonna get any motor with less than 100K.
I guarantee you the best motors stay in Japan, the japanese aren't stupid. They don't drive there cars any softer than anyone else, and they don't treat them any better.
Almost every car exported out of japan has had the clock rolled back. It's amazing how many 20 year old cars come out of Japan with under 100,000km.
People seem to turn a blind eye to this ****.
An a side note, it has been said that something like 30 - 70% of the parts coming out of Japan are stolen, so who knows how legit your parts are.
