Default Best gear oil for 5 speeds?

Is synthetic fluid better for the tranny than regular oil?

I asked the Honda mechanics this... for before ...'92 I think it was? (don't quote me on this) ... you just use normal engine oil, 5W30 viscosity. For newer trannies, it's best to use Honda MTF. I can't really see any gain in using synthetic.

Best overall and for severe duty is Ultralight Shockproof RED LINE - not the usual Redline tranny fluid - you have to ask specifically for this type!!!!The regular is NOT good!!!!

I've heard good things about the redline stuff. My only problem is finding some. I figure use whatever you want as long as you change it every 10k or so.

I used to work for Honda, all my honda racer friends that worked there used Honda mtf. You can use 5w30 regular oil but they will shift a little funny sometimes. I recommend Honda spec or maybe a specialy made syn. oil for the tranny.

Damn, try to make this point , but nobody seems to get it...You will NOT be sorry if you ask for the SUPERLIGHT/ULTRALIGHT SHOCKPROOF tranny fluid for moderate to super heavy duty usage.

That came straight from Kurt Gordon, and has been used by many of the top people in racing. I used it on my 309 HP turbo d16 motor with great results. But so much for the testamonials, make sure you get the REDLINE fluid just as I have written it - Summit Racing has it http://www.summitracing.com amongst others for 8.95 a quart. DO NOT mistake it for the regular RESLINE synthetic tranny fluid!!!!

I really think it depends on the year... I specifically went and asked about getting Honda MTF, and they said "No, do NOT use it in the older model transmissions, they're not designed to use it, and you will damage your tranny". I thought it was pretty direct .
