Default The Beast gets a makeover..

New setup means a new thread :p
Some may be familiar with the car, the blue H2B Turbo CRX.. But for those who don't know This is Karla also know as "The Beast"!
Been my project since May 2006 and has been a pain for as long as I can remember.
Pics explain quicker than words so below is the short story for the past 5 or so years...

2006

2007

2008

2009

2010

2011

...Then poof on the dyno in February...

Now for the "New Setup"!

Higher compression motor, smaller turbo, fatter powerband and lets not forget 4WD

The stock Honda "Real Time All Wheel Drive" system is slow reacting and nothing more than just an assist. To be able to control it I'm going to remove the two oil pumps in the rear diff and use that now void space to fit a hydraulic throwout bearing that will allow me (The driver) to lock, unlock, or "slip" the clutch pack that sends power to the rear tires! The objective is to not break the transfercase or rear end every time the car launches.

Another weak point is the tiny rear axles.. The solution, a "Big Axle Conversion".
1st I bored out the ID of the rear diff so it'll actually take a Bseries axle then I took the spider gears from a FWD Bseries open diff and fitted them into the now gutted CRV rear diff, milled the backside of the spider gears to allow the circlip on the axle to lock in, then welded the rear diff solid!
The rear axles will consist of '97-'01 CRV passenger side Inners CV joints, '94-'01 Integra outter CVs, and custom length axle shafts.

New trans mount almost done.

Progress is slow but it'll get there!

I'm still waiting on my valve cover as well. 88ED scammed me out of that valve cover and never returned the amount paid.

yeah!!! look my thread (with my signature)
perhaps, there will be some interesting information for you if you are using a QSD kit to have a finer build or simply to the coupling of the CRV gearbox with the H22 engine

on my side, I will be interested in more details on your switch to the transfer case.
Perhaps it would be interesting for me to do the same
thanx

SWEET!!! As you already know, i'm very interested in your rt4wd modifications! I've done the h2b swap as well (in the integra in my sig, after the built GSR motor went south) very interested to see your progress here, and to discuss all things rt4wd! I REALLY like the "big axle" conversion you've got going on. Along with my CRV, I also have a 93 civic coupe and enough parts to convert it to rt4wd as well (minus the trans, which im working on getting) the toughest part of that build for me, looks to be the rear trailing arm/brake/axle setup because I want to go 5 lug with it (be able to swap wheels with the CRV) and its going to eventually get the turbo and motor from the CRV as well...which will make decent power (600whp capable) so it sounds like You and I will be following a similiar path to go fast down the quarter mile, and keep parts together!

I'm excited about this thread!! LOVE your car and your attention to detail as well!! Are you a machinist by trade?

Instead of my original axle idea of '97-'01 CRV passenger side Inners CV joints, '94-'01 Integra outter CVs, and haveing a custom length shaft made from scratch and needing both ends splined. I am now going with 94-97 Accord automatic driver side axle..
The inner joint of it is identical to the CRV pass side inner joint and the length of the axle is more than long enough to use and only have to cut and spline one side of it for the Integra outter to fit. Basically, it should cost way less at an "axle shop" to have my axles made.

No, not a machinist, just a guy in a shop who happens to know a little of everything. Hope to open up a shop one day!

Feel free to talk about anything AWD/ 4WD related in here.. I'm building the car for corners more than straight lines but I do plan on making some power

After seeing the epic tuning car I wondered how cool it would be to have a h2b EF with all wheel drive. This is awesome. This is right here is innovation at its finest.
