Default BAR State Ref law Passed

http://www.bar.ca.gov/

check that out. Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly but does this mean we can't take our hybrids to a state ref to get them bar'd?

although in retrospect this might be a good thing. I guess this means that a cop couldn't send you to ref if there isn't one to look at your car. hmm.

Just because they are closed doesn't mean you can't get a REF ticket. They will still give you the ticket. When DMV gets the ticket, they will just suspend your registration so your car can't be driven...

that doesn't make any sense. So they can write you a ref ticket, yet you can't take your car anywhere to get it reffed? so basically you just can't ever drive your car again until they decide to re-open the ref? I don't so. You could VERY easily fight a ref ticket in court if there are no open ref stations.

Which means DMV will suspend your registration untill the stations open(which they will.) Why wouldn't they? You got the ticket, you might be ilegal...

DMV don't know what engine or parts you have, so they can't write it off...

The judge doesn't know what engine or parts you have...

In the end, I think DMV will suspend registration untill the stations are opened...

DMV does this with Insurance also. My policy ended on my GTO, didn't want to pay for it since I don't drive it. I got a letter in the mail a week later saying my registration was suspended due to no insurance.

Its just a guess, but makes sence to me...

the insurance with your GTO is different. That was a law passed last January. Insurance Agencies are now by law told to report cars that dont pay their ins or cancel their coverage.

they are very closed. I know that. As far as if the DMV will hold your license suspended until they open, that I'm not sure.

I talked to people at the state office about this particular matter. Basically, you need to get a temp operating cert from DMV and specify that it is dut to having the vehicle in question Ref'd.

The DMV knowing the situation will be a little easier in getting the temp certs from.

When you are pulled over, let the officer know you have a temp cert while awaiting BAR cert due to the budget situation.

If you are up front about this and have demonstrated that you are already aware of the process and plan to have the situation completed properly, you should not have a problem avoiding a ticket.

If you are just a jerk about it or hide anything, yes you will get a ticket.

I agree with this I have personally gotten away with no license or proof registration or proof of insurance tickets in the passed just be honest with them and they should be understanding............. well unless they are moto cops they have always been dicks
