b20 Vtec problems!
We just got done installing a b20 vtec in an 88 crx hf. Everything fit and everything hooked up perfect. We are using stock botom and top is a b16a. We are using a pw0 ecu that has not been touched. We are having problems getting the timing to stay correct. It seems like when we get it set the ecu changes it and retards or advances it. The engine idols fine. I know when we put the engine together we could not get the cams to line up perfectly due to using the b20 timing belt. Could this be the problem? Also we drove it around the block and it seems to have no power but i am surew that has to do with the timing. Any info would help. Also we got new plug wires but the guy sent us some for sohc engine so we have to get new ones. this is our first b20 swap but we have done a lot of b16's and they all run awesome. please help.

Re: b20 Vtec problems! (Booger's_Rex)
If you are using the B20 water pump, and using the B20 belt, you are just fine. You need to find the jumper so that the ecu will hold timing for you while you set it. I have an '88 Si and it's in the engine bay by the driver's side fender, middle of the way between the headlight and the firewall. The plug has a rubber boot over it. Pull that off and short the two open connections by running a piece of wire from one to the other.
Hopefully yours is in the same place as mine. Mine holds the timing just right.

Re: b20 Vtec problems! (badCRX)
we tried the wire jump but it made the ecu throw a code. we finally got the intake cam to line up correctly with the exhaust and the timing is finally set and the engine is running great.
