i'm looking at buying a cheap crv off a friend of mine for the b20, with having the whole crv what else would i need to swap it into my 1999 civic ex. I know i'll need a tranny, just don't know what i can use from the crv and what i'll need to pick up?

If it happens to be a 5 speed CR-V you can use the engine harness in the civic as well (if it's a '98 - '01 CR-V) as well as the ECU.
