b18c5 scam or not?
I was thinking about buying a JDM integra type R engine. The one with the red valve cover and it has 200 hp and revs up to 8900 rpms. The company I want to buy it from is telling me that the Type R engine's from Japan only say b18c. I thought all type R engines say b18c5. Which is true? Is there anyway to tell which engine it is?? Please help because the engine is a good deal.

JDM B18C's only say B18C. GSR or ITR. We referance them as the B18C R or jdm itr motor type deal. The US ITR motor is the B18C5.
Same applies to B16A's, and H22A, it only is stamped B16A and H22A on the JDM motors.

Look on the exhaust side of the head above the exhaust manifold... There should be a "PR3" somewhere... Also, look at the intake manifold, thats a dead givaway

Intake manifold says P73 on it, head says PR3-3 on it, should have a 4-1 header, and take the valve cover off and distributor out to see if it's got Type R cams by looking at the rings next to the key input on the intake cam. Transmission will most likely be a Y80 (or S80) and it should say J4D LSD on it. If it's JDM, shift linkage will be gold, and the ECU will be OBD-2 and read P73. If you want to know the exact year of the block, post the first number that goes after the B18C part and that'll tell you what "generation" B18C motor it is and you can go from that (as the 1st one was in 94).
That's just a few of the more obvious things to check out.
