Default b18b in my ek coupe questions...idle issues and seems very noisy.

Car: 96 ex civic coupe
Motor: OBD1 LS swap, EX harness, LS ecu, jumper harness, rewired dizzy...no CEL.

Problems: Revs up way high on cold starts and gradually comes down
--Idle jumps from 700-1000 and sometimes dips lower, IAT? FITV? I've toyed with the screw on the TB and got the idle better, but how would I check to see if it is one of the mentioned above?

--Missing especially at cold starts and if I am in a higher gear while slowing down (4th or 5th slowing from 40 or so)..prolly just needs plugs, but anything else?

--Also, I hear strange ticking noises that sound like they are coming from the cam gear area. Now, it just maybe that I am paranoid and that there is no cover so the noise just seems loud, OR, it needs a valve adjustment. The noise is not regular and only really seems to happen when you first start it up. Also, it looks like the timing belt moves alot once you start it up, not like it is coming off the cam gears, but more like side to side, gets better as the idle settles and car warms.

|OO| <--cam gears
\\// <--side to side belt
O <--Crank pulley

I hope that helps understand, lol.

I appreciate any help.

Check:

See if you fast idle valve has coolant (lines hooked up) to it.
The diagram is give for timing is weird but it sounds and looks like your timing is off. Does the car feel like it lacks power?

Power seems fine, yeh that diagram is weird, i tried tho.

Lemme try this:

This is what it should look like
|OO|
\ /
O

And this is what it does:
|OO| <--cam gears
\\// <--side to side belt, the belt moves back and forth
O <--Crank pulley

what bundy said, Make sure your timing marks are lined up correctly with cam gears and crank. this is very easy to check with a timing light
