b16a1 into 1990 crx dx with SiR harness.
Anyone atempted this? What drawbacks would there be, if any?
I have the PR3 pinout with wire colors, and an uncut SiR harness that came with the engine with resistor box... it would come out a lot cleaner I think.
I realize it may be hard.
Any info would be appreciated as to it being impossible and the reasons why.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

modify your DX harness for the B16A. use the necessary connectors(VTEC) and MPFI wiring from the SiR harness.
anyone can feel free to argue otherwise, but I've done my research, and done the swap, in a 90 CRX DX...
I'd imagine there's a how-to link up top in the SWAP FAQ, if you want to look there.

thank you for your reply!
it just seems to me that if your using the dx harness for a completley different ecu anyway, sure some of the pins may be the same, but youd still have to run extra wires through the firewall for the extra injectors, and vtec stuff, so why not just keep the SiR harness?

you only have to run 6 or 7 wires through the firewall for the swap. the reason it's easier to use your modified DX harness is the same reason you can't just use a CRX Si harness to convert to MPFI...

For anyone wondering the answer is no, you cannot simply plug an Si engine harness into a DX car, it just doesn't match up. The easiest way is to modify the DX harness....</TD></TR></TABLE>
for your DX, the wiring swap involves two parts: converting to MPFI, then adding the 3 VTEC wires. Follow this guide for the first parts:

alright, this seems like so much work, if i had just bought a front clip, i would have the connectors needed to reach the ecu....
i guess thats what is so frustrating to me, the harness comes right from the engine to the firewall, and the ecu is on the other side of it, so it just seemed to make more sense to get those wires 1 foot to the ecu, but there is obviously not enough since its a dx...
i wonder if any engine importers have the wires that pass threw an sir firewall....

but you forget the engine harness plugs in at the left AND right shock tower. the harness on the both sides would need replaced too. Including the harness running into the dash. The way it was explained to me, the entire underdash harnesss would need to be replaced with the Si/SiR one to make the SiR harness 100% plug and play. Just post your results if you decide to use the SiR harness(es), so we can see how much easier it was.
I'll stick to the tried and true though. It's not hard to run 7 wires through the firewall, from the ecu to the engine.

I agree with nuc79 100%. It would be too much of a hassle and waste of time to use the SiR harness. It really isn't that hard to run the extra wiring for the injectors and VTEC.

good point, so none of this is going to match up for the drivers side either.
i have the helms for the sir, and it obviously would be insane to do it that way, i now agree. its just a shame more of it doesnt match.
****. i hate my usdm right now. thank you very much for your responses.
one more question, is it mandatory to use an sir cluster to get speedometer?
i ordered one anyway, but im curious if it was absolutley nessesary.

If you use the SiR cluster, you will have to wire in the electronic speed sensor. If you stick with your stock cluster, then you can use a cable driven speed sensor. You can just use the speed sensor off your d-series tranny if you go the cable driven route.
