The 1st gen b16a also comes with a cable trans. I would go with the b16a because it has more power and a greater wealth of aftermarket parts.

Thats what i would do. Get a SOHC VTEC then get your regular bolt-ons (i/h/e) and maybe a new clutch. How much do you plan on spending and who is going to do the labor?

You live in CA which there are tons of engine importers within driving distance. I live in KY and have bought 4 motors with no problems. You need to try a little harder.

You really have an easy decision...... b16a..... 8K RPM 160 HP DOHC VTEC, or a 130 HP non VTEC motor, really a no brainer.
A b16a with bolt-ons will smoke a ZC with bolt-ons

I have a d16zc dohc 11:1 compression web stage 3 cams intake header and exhaust and i beat si all day long. so i would go with the d16zc i ran a 9:00 seconds flat in a 1/8 mile
