Default B16A1 Cable trannys

Is the search broken? I can't find anything at all on cable transmissions... Anyhow...

My JDM S1 transmission is making terrible noises in neutral, and I figure I may as well replace it, since I need to use the car. Does anyone know of a place that'll sell JDM transmissions without the motor? Every place I've called says it's motor+trans only (Nippon motors, Inline4, Importbuilder, ImportAutoSalvage...etc.).Alternatively, is there a USDM cable tranny that'll work with an 88-91 B16A? I had heard that the 90-93 Integra would work, but I can't find anything like that in the search either

I'm still searching the net at large, but if anyone has any interesting suggestions, post 'em up.

A 90-93 Integra cable tranny will work. You can use any b-series cable tranny.

Any of the 90-93 Integra cable tranny's will work. If you want to have the same gearing as the one you have now, then you'll want to find a US 92-93 GS-R tranny. The LS tranny will have longer gears - better for a turbo if you plan on going that route.

Thanks for that tip...I'm staying N/A for the time being (unless I get a sudden flood of cash into my bank account!). Am I going to have to mix-n-match axles with any of the 'Teg trannys? The car has Raxles hybrid ones on it now...

Hey, I may soon be in a similar boat. My JDM cable trans for b16 is grinding 3rd/4th.

I know you can get a newer hydraulic trans put in there, but it'll cost you a few hundred more. That does give you some more (and definitely newer) choices for replacement. Maybe even a late model 'R' trans w/LSD stock. That'd keep your gearing similar (if not the same) and factory honda LSD.

This is what I may do if/when the tranny locks up, or absolutely needs replacing. I'm looking into going b20/vtec and I think I'd need a newer trans to bolt up to the late model motor.

Anybody wanna support or shoot down my theories? Please do, I'm here for the knowledge.

u hsould be able to contact any engine importer aka jhp or hondamotorsonline and i htink they will be happy to set you up with a cable tranny. It may not say on there websites but i am positive most will sell just the tranny's. The only thing when buying a cable tranny is that you are taking a risk cause you have to realize there all at least 8 years old if not older.

Also if you do b20vtec you should stick with your cable tranny it will bolt up u just have to make sure to order the pressure plate for the b20 or b16 hydro tranny and then get the actual clutch disc for a 90-93 teg cable transmision. Then everything will be fine and dandy and go smooth cause the cable tranny splines and the hydro tranny splines are diffrent.

We tried a hydro tranny from a 99 SI to mate up with our B16a1 engine, the input shaft was much different diameter than what the B16a1 would accept, the new tranny was a much smaller diameter.

you just need to remember 2 things
89-91, small spline
92-01 big spline
splinne size is clutch dependent, or actually co-depenedent, not moto rcompatibility

court,
Does that hold true for jdm tranny's also? If this is so, according to what you are saying, if I have a 92-93 Integra clutch, then I cannot use a 89-91 jdm y1/s1/j1. Right?

yes, if you are running the input shaft that stays true with the transmission. however, if you are running a big spline on a j1( JDM! 4785) then your setup would agree with the input shaft(final drive)
