B16a or Ls/V-tech
Well I am thinking about buying 92 integra or 90 dx. I need to know which is easier and which has more horsepower b16a or Ls/V-tech. If i go ls/v-tech what tranny should I use?? I am welcoming all advice!
i have done a lot of research on this particular topic, and have made a firm decision. as soon as i heard my friend with a 93 integra ls had a gsr head that he no longer intended to drop on his b18a block, i decided to go for it. the lsvtec can be a little more work than most people make it out to be, but i think its well worth the price. a b16a has 160 horsepower, while a gsr head mounted on to an ls block put me right at about 200.
im not sure whether its easier to drop in a whole engine or just a head (im guessing the head would be easier), but im using my stock ls tranny.
hope this helps

the 92 teg will be easier to do the swap in but the 90 dx is lighter. The 92 teg you won't need mounts and stuff and the car is already OBD1. It also already has the ls block in it and tranny and axles and all that good stuff. LSvtec will have much more power than the b16. The b16 will be more dependable and handle more abuse. Build the lsvtec right and you'll love it. Let me know if you have any questions about it, i'll be happy to help you out.
the 92 teg would be easier to swap since it bolts right in..and it's obd 1 so you have more ecu choices..if you have the $$ build the ls/vtec it will rip a modded b16 pretty bad...and always use a vtec tranny b16/b17/b18c in any car...ls trannys are garbage...longer gearing >longer to accelerate...na or turbo.
LSVTEC... Just don't be too cheap... ie plastigauge clearances, if you're planning on using OE pistons go with OS and bore 0.25mm over, ARP rod bolts, don't worry about oil squirters (they just unbalance the rotational assembly), VTEC oil and water pump, and as dohcsideSi said... a VTEC tranny... a YS1 or Y1 will be perfect... Maybe it's just me but I hate the B16A block... If it were only the 270mm deck B16B/18C/1/5 I would be fine... R/S is too high to make good bottom end... Just high strung rev through the roof "okay" power... If you've got the money I would still just go with a straight B18C, if you can't build the LSVTEC to atleast those specs above I would just go with the B16A... There's no reason to build it and have it fail somewhere down the road... I just don't like stock bottom end motors... My friend has one in his EG... COMPLETELY stock bottom end LSVTEC (VTEC oil and water pump tho) with a P72 cylinder head and ITR cams... It ran a 13.40@103 which is okay I guess but nothing special... It's been running for a year now with no problems but i still don't trust it... Just my $0.02... Good Luck
Haha I knew someone was going to rip you for spelling it VTECH.. But Kataku2K3 a 13.4 for a STOCK bottom end ls/vtec is a great time. Was it tuned and on slicks? If your going allmotor make sure you put some high compression pistons in it because the stock ls slugs are ****.

Yea just tuned my feel with a VAFC... and running MT 20x6x14 slicks... I also forgot to mention he was running a 99 Si tranny... The only thing is my friend that built that motor for my other friend used to have (got stolen a couple months ago)his B18C1 in his 95 Si... Atleast he got his car back with no motor or interior... He had a CTR IN cam, sprockets, IN, JDM ITR header, ACT clutch, 2000 Si tranny with Quaife LSD, P28 w/ SK2 proggy and on MT 20x6x14 slicks he ran a 13.03@103... Remember that's with an Si chassis as apose to the LSVTEC's DX... Both cars were full interior... Oh well, time for his new motor... 13.5:1 86mm CRVTEC... All he wants is an 11.80... full interior daily driven... His race race motor that is similar, only difference is the pistons JE 15.0:1's... It made 260whp and 162wtq... In his race chassis it ran an 11.40@117 but crossing the 1320 just as he put it into 4th... Stock B16 tranny + 24.5" tall slicks doesn't create the best gearing... Should be a 10 sec car this year with his custom geared tranny... Sorry I sorta went off track... Latez
b16 and Ls-vtec (properly built) are WORLDS apart. no comparison. b16 has no torque. ls-vtec has lots of torque. The only thing is you gotta build the ls block to take the high-reving abuse that a vtec block was built for. so money-wise ls-vtec will cost twice as much. but the differnce is enormous.
On Board Diagnostics 1.... This is for 1992-1995 Cars... 1991 and older run nonOBD where as 1996+ is OBD2... With these changes in the cars systems different ECU's were used... So a OBD1 ECU will not plug into a 96+ car or 91- car without a harness convertor (jumper)... There have also been reversions for OBD2... '96-'98 Civic's and '96-'99 Integra's are ALL OBD2a, '99+ Civic's and 00+ Tegs are OBD2b... These reversions place more parameters on the car which in turn limits your overall performance... These ECU's may look very similar though they use different plugs when connecting to your car... Hope this helps... Peace
