Default B16A.....into a 98 civic ex?? is it allowed?

is a B16A engine allowed to swap into a 98 civic ex legally? because those engines seem alot cheaper than the newer B18, etc.......if so, then i am gonna save up about $2G and get the swap. otherwise, it will be at least $2800 just for the engines of newer GS-Rs and i would rather go with an older one with about 40Kmiles and pay about 2G installed then pay $2800 just for the engine let alone install. SOME HELP PLEASE!

I have no idea what you mean about "legally", but ANY B16A will fit into your Civic. However, since you have a newer 98 model, you are cursed with, I mean have, OBD II. The wiring, emmissions, etc. will be much easier if you find a B16 that is also OBD II. Maybe you can find a wrecked 99-00 Si and strip it of everything that you need to do the swap. You'll need an OBD II ECU, etc. I think that is what you are talking about legal. You can put in an older B16 no problem, but the wiring will be a bit more difficult. Try these links for engines, and or help.

Good luck!

yeah, thats what i mean by legal, like putting a 90-93 B16A into my car. how much would that run me about with something like that including installe?.......how much would it run me for a 99-00 SI engine and everything installed?

The 99-00 would probably be more expensive, but who knows. I'm not a dealer. Check out those web sites.

Hello, I am new here, and thought I would say hello and help answer a the question, The anser is no, it is not legal to put and OBD I engine into a vehicle that requires OBD II. Not only will you have nightmares with the wiring, but if and when you get it inspected, if they find out, there can be some fines for it.
