Default ARP Head studs a necessity?

Shortly, I will be opening up a b16 to add ctr pistons. I dont have the money for it right now, but I will be upgrading most of the internals before the end of time (hopefully!). My question is: Should I get ARP head studs before I slap the motor back together? How necessary are they on an all-motor b16? $130 for the studs is $130 i would rather spend on something else to increase my output. Opinions....?

You need new studs anyway. Might as well spend $50 more for the good stuff.

$130 isn't something that will drastically increase output by any means.

What's more important, peak power output or absolute longevity? Sounds like money is an issue, so go for mods that will increase longevity. Then you can laugh at the guys whose engines break down every second weekend.

If you plan on having that head off more than a few times, wait until you have studs for the first time. When the head is torqued it stresses the threads in the block. After a few times it will be weak. The whole point behind the stud is that it doesnt loose threads and neither will the block.

you only get it if you have significant cylinder pressures and pull your head off a lot ... so if you have a 12:1 compression all motor and run abvout 30 degrees of timing with mild cams you should get it, likewise if you boosting 20psi, etc. etc.

Its also a pain in the *** too because the installation of these take a lot more effort than stock head bolts.

30 degrees of timing? Geez, I don't see how thats possible!

very possible ... with big cams, dynamical compression changes dramatically ..

use the arp studs. summit sc stocks them and ships in 2 days. you dont want to break/strip/stretch a old one. it is a piece of mind thing.
