Which ARP head studs????
I have a 2000 b16a motor in my car now and plan on swapping my block out for a b18c1 block. I was wondering if anyone knew which ARP headstuds to buy, or are all b-series head studs going to be the same.
C'mon guys i really need some help here, because I'm leaking oil from around my head gasket. I know that my head isn't warped, because I've had it a certified straight edge put up to it. So I need to replace the head bolts with head studs

hth,
ITR engine = B18 block fused with B16 cyl head
your engine = B18 block using a B16 cyl head
I'd go with GSR or ITR application ARP studs
B16 head studs are alittle on the short side due to the differences in deck heights

Cool deal...........so what is up with all the hype one hand tightening these studs in their respective places? Should I hand tighten them or what? I'm not worried about the torque sequence.........the head has been pulled down more than 3 times now and it is just time to change them, because I've developed a small leak around the front left side of the head. I know the leak is not coming from the cam seal or the back side of the distributor either. Does anyone have an appx. cost of how much they are?

Ok, B16A = B16 block + PR3 head
B18C1 = B18 block + P72 head
**B18C5 = B18 block + PR3 head**
**DO NOT GET A GS-R ARP HEAD STUD KIT!!**
If you do, 2 of them will be the WRONG length!!! When I built my engine (same as you, B18C block w/B16A head) I got a GS-R kit and 2 of the studs were wrong!! The GS-R has a DIFFERENT head and thus needs/uses different studs.
You NEED a ARP kit for a Type-R!!!!!
BTW; switching to a 1.8L block will be the BEST mod you'll ever make! Trust me! I loved my 2nd gen B16A, but man... my new bottom end rocks!

According to ARP's website they don't make Type R headstuds.

My engine builder told me to get GSR's and thats what is in my motor right now.

excuse me?
You are very wrong sir.
GSR head studs apply to
B16B/B18a,b,c/B20b,z when using a VTEC head
If you are putting a LS head on a b18 or b20, then you need LS studs, because on the LS, its the 2 middle ones that are longer, GSR are all the same length.
And yes, hand tight then 66ft/lbs torque'd in sequence according to helms.
If you dont have the ARP moly lube, then ARP recommends a higher torque if you are using 30 weight oil. 80ft/lbs if i remember correctly, but call ARP and ask, they will tell you.
Make sure you hav the right socket, regular 1/2 inch sockets are shallow, make sure you are using 1/2" drive or a deep well'd 3/4's inch socket.

But hey what do I know (as well as some of the other people on H-T) for all I know Briggs and Stratton head studs might work better??
For the original question: get the GSR/ITR headstuds part number 208-4303. That is my suggestion.
[Modified by SLPR, 6:30 AM 3/7/2003]
I think that you can use this set for your setup
ARP Part Number: 208-4601
Which is the set for the B16.
ARP Part Number: 208-4601
Which is the set for the B16.
Yes, the b16's would fit, but they are shorter then the b18c ARP head studs
you want the correct size for your application.
So the b16 would be for the b16, which isnt for the b18
The reason being is the b18 is a decked b16
refer to usefull information posted by katman comparing the deck heights of a b16 vs b16b/b18c/b18a.b/b20b.z
Please stop posting incorrect information
How important is it to use the Arp Moly Lube ? We totaly forgot to use it on our engine. Nothing is torqued yet, but the head is allready sitting on the block. I can take the studs out again, but it would be a pain in the ***. I tightened them all with the double nut method.
