Anyone with LS/VTEC?
Anyone with an LS/VTEC care to share with me about what all different components you used. I am planning on building one and I would like to see what all kinds of components people are using (i.e. head, studs, pistons, cams...) I would appreciate any feedback!

Re: Anyone with LS/VTEC? (sappsycho)
i wanna spwnd whatever it takes to build a reliable, well built LS/VTEC. I was thinking TypeR pistons, ARP rod bolts, B16 head, Type R cams, intake mani. I just wanna see what other people are using in their LS/VTEC setups.

use b16 pistons instead of ITR, the type r ones aren't a completely drop in part for stock ls block. Found that out when I was going to put them in my lsv. At the least shotpeen your rods and get arp head and rod bolts. And btw you can't use your stock ls pistons because they don't have valve reliefs, and they're low compression too so get rid of em.

Why cann't you use LS pistons in an LS/Vtec? Im useing them in mine.
B16 head
stock LS bottom
ARP B18c Headstuds
vtec oil and water pump
b18c1 timing belt
b18b head gasket
full race dowel pins
One big turbo
thats my basic setup
B16 head
stock LS bottom
ARP B18c Headstuds
vtec oil and water pump
b18c1 timing belt
b18b head gasket

You can, but they have yield a shitty compression ratio.
To the person who earlier said not to use Type R pistons I would have to say that was aweful advice. Why? All you have to do to put on ITR pistons onto the LS rods is have 1mm machined off of each side of the wrist pin section of the rod. That's hardly any big deal, especially if you have the stock LS rods shot peened like you suggested.
My old setup was B18A1 with full balance & blueprinting. Shotpeened and polished LS rods with USDM .25mm overbore ITR pistons and some ARP rodbolts. B16A head with stock everything. "mugen" p28 ecu. ITR oil pump and vtec waterpump and t-belt. The motor had awesome midrange. 4000-6000 rpm the car pulled wonderfully. ****, 3000rpm felt strong too.
Add the type R cams and intake manifold and you are looking at 180whp easily with 125-135lb/ft of torque. It's a beautiful motor.

I am plannig on getting the block bored and cleaned up so it won't be a prob. putting ITR pistons in. I am still confused though on which head studs to use?

Re: (ChaseIntegra)
lsvtec
b18b1 bored to 84 and sleeved by GE
je pistons, 9:1 $
eagle rods
b20 crank
GE vtec conversion kit
b20 oem headgasket
arp gsr headstuds
b16a2 head, stock valvetrain
quaiffe lsd, si tranny
clutchnet clutch
ebay headers, ebay intake , n1 exhaust
chipped p28 w/ lsvtec program
homemade 0bd1-0bd2 jumper harness
thats basically all i got. the car runs strong, no oil leaks whatsoever. i built the motor in december of last year, and the only thing i had to fix was a bad water pump and i had to rebuild my tranny because i had no 4th or reverse. the motor is being babied until i put about a thousand miles on it. i plan on getting a hondata s200 and a catch can.

Do not run b16 or LS head bolts. I used GSR/Type R head bolts. Use nothing but 1.8 Vtec bolts or their ARP equivalent. The ARP headstuds are stronger than head bolts, but as long as you use the 1.8VTEC studs you will be cool.
What happens when you use B16 or LS bolts? You blow a headgasket. Everytime.

b18a1 block , shotpeend LS rods, pr2 pistons, blueprint balanced, gsr head, crower valvetrain, stage 2 cams. Only run at the track was 14.2 @ 100, but ALOT of mid and top end !

Re: (DOHCarp)
Unless you had your pistons machined for valve reliefs then you are ok using LS pistons. My very first lsv I used my stock ls pistons machined and they were fine. Early on a lot of ppl were doing these lsvtec conversions in their garages and driveways thinking you can just bolt it on and that's where a lot of misconceptions came from because with no valve reliefs that motor is sure to blow up.

Re: (elesvee)
Are you sure you need valve rliefs in your ls pistons if you use a b16 head? I am running stock ls pistons in my block, a b16 head, and 3 layer head gasket. The engine seems to run great, although I havn't revved it past 7,200 yet.
