adding an oil cooler to B18A/B or B20B/Z blocks
very simple and helpfull mod. it involves taping into the coolant passage from the back of the block.
the oil cooler mounts to the block where the oil filter goes. B18A/Bs and B20B/Zs do not come with an oil cooler but a GSR/ITR oil cooler can easily be added.
the back of a stock B20B(B20Z and B18A/B are identical):
overview of the back of the modified B20B(notice the oil cooler in place where the oil filter mounts to the block, also notice the coper colered fitting where the block was tapped all the way to the coolant passage):
close-up of the same:
the tube that runs from the water pump to the thermostat housing must be swaped for a GSR/ITR unit, they are identical in length/width, black=GSR and gold=B20B:
the whole set-up dummied together to give an idea of the finished product:
happy hybriding

FYI
You can buy the spout from Acura.
The thread size/pitch is 16 X 1.5 for the coolant spout. You will need to drill a 14.5mm hole and use a 16 X 1.5 tap to make the threads.

Re: adding an oil cooler to B18A/B or B20B/Z blocks (sirhatchback)
it unscrews, anti-clockwise (which is normal)
you have to use a pipe wrench to grip it to twist it off...
this will probably destroy the OEM thread
but the oil cooler is a great mod for cheap

Back from the dead.
What do I do with that big extra hose coming off the GSR Coolant pipe, just plug it?

The first time I saw this I thought the same thing. That oil cooler is over 300 bux at majestic! Don't see many R's in the junkyard round here.

only 1st gen B16As, OBD1 GSR's and ITR's have oil coolers. H22A's also have oil coolers but I'm not sure if they are the same.
2nd gen B16As do not have oil coolers, nor do OBD2 GSR's.

kools.
so from my understanding, all that is needed is
1)oil cooler
2)the tube that runs from water pump to thermostat
3)the golden broze thread
4)hoses
is this it?
how much does this cost?

Re: adding an oil cooler to B18A/B or B20B/Z blocks (T.O.tegs)
Thanks for posting this, great job. How effective is the factory oil cooler compared to another oil cooler that has fins on it and looks like a small radiator? Does the factory unit do a good job? Is an oil cooler a good idea for an all motor car? How many degrees could this oil cooler drop the oil temp? thanks very much
