So, pretty soon here, I'm going to pick up a friends automatic '99 civic. Its a 4 door DX. Nothing special, I know. Just wanted to see what my options would be to make this thing have a bit more power. I was thinking a b16b swap with the auto tranny is my best bet. I'm fine with the automatic transmission since its only my daily driver.

B16B auto? That's interesting as I don't think I've ever seen this combo. If you decide to go this route, please do a build thread.

Did any car ship with a B16B auto? There was an actual JDM EK sedan but I don't know anything more about it.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for this engine but I think I'm over it. Unless you get this for a steal through a private sale, street prices for a B18C5 aren't that far behind.

A b16b auto swap is going to be the biggest pain in the *** you ever encountered.

Not to mention I think you might fry the automatic transmission if you plan to drive it like a b16b likes to be driven.

Why on earth do you want an automatic transmission bolted to a $3,000 Honda race engine?

No b16b ever was produced with an auto transmission, the b16b exclusively came in the Civic type-R. Very similar to the b18C in the JDM ITR. Same head and cams as far as I know. Factory port/polish.

Yeah, probably. Did the EK Sedan ever have an auto transmission? I think it did.

Regardless, the OP will be limited to that uber-rare tranny or an AEM EMS with some super mad pr0gramming skillz.

I think this is viable but it will be more trouble than any conventional swap. Regardless, I'd like to see how this can be done.

I don't think it possible to hook up an auto to an engine that was designed for a stick?

The ECU would not be able to control the trans.

DX= y7 so do a mini me y8 swap and enjoy the gas mileage... Unless your going to do a manual swap which you stated you were fine with the auto tranny, thats about the only option the auto guys have motor wise.... Go b18c if you swap manual and go b series though

The USDM never saw a B16 with a auto trans. You could get an Integra auto trans but the swap is a pain as said. Plus there is really no point to a auto swap. The JDM auto B16 cams suck really bad even compared to B16 MT cams. To get any power worth anything you need to go to a 5 speed and either boost the D (not worth it IMO)or best option is to swap any B18 into it.

Don't forget you will to modify the frame rail, and make your own mount(s).

"Some" EK's in other countrys had an auto B, but they had diferent frame rails, and never made to the US.

There has been several people that claim to have done a auto B, in a EK, but no one has ever proved it!!!

Thanks for all of your replies. My apologies though. I meant a B18b1 motor and auto tranny swap. The same that's found in the Integra LS. Would this be a simple swap? But would it be worth it? Can I get some decent power out of the DX's engine with some tweeks?

NO, it's cheaper and easier to swap to a 5spd than to put an B18B auto in.

No, it's not worth it at all. The amount of work that it requires to get the eninge/trans in the car is just stupid...

The car will never be fast as long as it's an auto, and the Y7 isn't a power house by any means.

Never seen it done in a 6th gen chassis. Many have tried. None have been successful. If they have they never posted on this forum.

If you want more power, I suggest selling the Honda and buying a 5-speed RWD car. It'll be more fun in every way. The money it takes to make an automatic 4-banger fast is just as much as buying a faster car instead.

This is what I've kind of thought too. Thanks for everyones input. I'll probably just leave it stock with some minor exterior tweeks until i can buy a faster car with more potential.

I can drive stick. I just didnt want to put too much money into this car. Doing a auto to manual conversion and a swap is a little more work than I was hoping for. Maybe just an auto to manual conversion and then boost the motor? By the way, whats the usual cost for doing the conversion? I was thinking 2k or so would be reasonable. I have a friend who's a Honda certified technician so he would do it for me.

An auto to manual conversion is best followed by a mild engine tune.
I'm in Jamaica, so a conversion like that would be about $3,500 (US currency) including the cost of labour.

I'm in the process of doing a conversion from my automatic 2001 EU1 Civic as well. I've already purchased the EP3-R shifter.

Right. Well I'm buying the car for $1200, so you can see why I don't want to put too much in it. I'd kind of just rather sell it and buy a manual ex instead.

Understood, but there isnt much to gain from tuning the automatic.
