97 Ek B18 swap wont go past 4000 rpm
OK, so heres the deal, and yes ive searched for weeks for a answer thats why im posting now....
I have a 97 Civic CX hatch, with a 99 Integra LS B18B1 swap. I didnt do the swap, i bought the car this way. I have installed a new tranny that is all the work i have personally done to the car. The civic will not go past 4000 RPM (limp mode assuming). The RPM gauge works, but speedo does not. People have told me to get a new VSS and it will fix the Speedo, but it didnt fix it. Also, with the check engine light, i have taken it to a dealership and other places in my town, and the OBD reader just says Error... it will not tell what code its throwing. Im just trying to get this car in working order so i can sell it to get a newer civic. If anyone has any input on what could be the problem please let me know. Thanks in advance
Also to note ive only owned Preludes my whole life, i have no idea if the car is a OBD1 or OBD2, Ive been told to just get a new ECU and see if that fixes it, but i dont want to drop the cash if thats not the problem

99:you'r engine is obd2(so is you'r shell). So im guessing you have an obd2 ecu and not obd2 to obd1 via a jumper hanress since you said reader. if it keeps saying error you'r going to have a hard time(if at all) checking codes i'd say get a known good and correct for you'r engine ECU and try again.
edit:unleass you're trying to use a reader on an obd1 car
here's how to check obd1 codes http://check-engine-light-codes.blog...retrieval.html

I am going to assume you have an obd1 ecu in it. check to see if you have a jumper harness at it. jump the plug like obd1 cars.

Here is a picture of the ECU and there is a Jumper harness.. i didnt know it was there. if the motor and car are both OBD2 they why is there a jumper harness?

Well assuming the PO had planned on "building/tuning it" OBD1 is the only way to go as you can't tune on OBD2. i'd start of by getting the correct OBD2 ECU for you'r b18 and re check the codes(if you have any) ya you can't scan a obd1 ecu that's why you got error.

Getting ready to do that now, but the IACV wouldnt cause the engine to only go to 4000RPM, and not everyday but maybe once a week I get the "honda bump rev" and it goes away pretty quick.

You have a chipped ECU, which considering the lack of related CEL probably has something to do with why you're limped. Yes, either replace the ECU or replace the chip. Replacing the chip with a basemap would probably be the cheaper option.

Ok, i just ordered a new Basemap chip for it. As for the Speedometer not working... would anyone know the cause of this?

VSS is used/new, the old vss we thought was bad, then did a GSR tranny swap and it had a like new vss that was working in the integra it came from. and I ordered it from Phearable.net

also a quick note to add, after removing my ECU to take a pic, now when i start my car it idles at 2100 rpm, then drops down to about 900 after 5-10 min and runs fine after that
